OK, Lets start by saying that jetting is one of the worst things i have done in my life!!!! There now thats off my chest. I have a problem. Ever since i snorkled my quad i have been chasing the jetting. Right now i have a slight pop at idle- 1/3 throttle, last night i took the airbox off and if i cover my front carb slightly with my hand, it smoothes right out. Is it possible my carbs are out of sync? Currently this is how my carbs are set up:
Mains: 158 front/152 rear
Pilots: 40
.040" shims under each needle
2.5 screws out on A/F screw.

Now i have had these carbs on and off quite a few times and am wondering if i thre the sync out? I honestly cannot rememebr if i did have the sides off of the linkages or not( i definatly could have as i have been f*#king with this for a long time.
Any info would be great!

I dont have the dynajet kit, so i dont have the clips, but i have heard and read to put them on the third notch down in this area.

TEX i am at about 2700 feet here.

What size of intake snorkle ??

Mines 2 inch to the box.

Mabe Ur too rich ??

In the main and needle

Cause I'm 2800 feet , and have way smaller jets than u.

Mine will not rev up with the air box cover off ( the carbs are vacuum flat slides ) and need the psi difference on either side of the plates to work.

So I would say Ur rich ( extra fuel to run with lid off)

What Tex said...too rich. Plus the rear carb is generally jetted a coupe sizes bigger than the front one as the rear cyl runs a bit hotter....

Ya i messed up in my first post about the jets. Mine are 148 and 152 as well. After a few late nights I finally narrowed it down to the choke plunger for the front carb. Took it apart and it was plugged solid with mud! Cleaned it up and I also synced my carbs, now it runs great! Just thought I would post my findings so others can figure it out as well.

When you synced your carbs, do you just eyeball it and have them opening at the same time ? Or is there another method ? As I have spent some time rejetting this pig for the quite a few hours.
