I totally agree with all the comments and I hate to say it but most of it boils down to "demand." One of the only ways to bring the prices down on commodities is to not buy them. We all complain about the high prices of items like ATV's and sleds, but do we stop buying them.....no. What do you think companies would do if not a single person sno-checked a sled, or nobody bought an ATV for an entire year, think things would change? Darn right they would. As long as we keep paying the prices, they will keep selling them at those prices. Just my 2 cents.

but what about the states. they move 100x more snowmobiles than canada. maybe its volume that is lowering the prices

there are dealers in the states that move more sleds than all of western canada combined.

If your lucky enough to live with in a decent driving distance to the border you can order online and send your items to a shiping[holding ]depot.I do this 1 to 2 times per year.Costs me $50 in fuel to go down and back but I make a day of it and usually hit wallys world down there as well.I buy my polaris VES gold plus for $37 a jug and belts are $140.I usually order ATV tires.acc for my truck you name it.The shipping company charges $4 a package or 2 tires bundled for $4.Yeah we get riped of up here so I buy what I need and keep a good supply.

over the years between doing business in both countries I have observed that it is not so simple as higher taxes, wages, transportation etc etc here in Canada. One fundamental difference is the Walmart theory/concept where they sell volume with low markup whereas in Canada we sell high margin / lower volume. Reason for this is they way Canadian business people think but also due to our population density. In other words, there are far more consumers stepping into a business establishment per day in any city across the US than Canada but here in Canada we still need the store front and all the other things associated with doing business. In a lot of cases this concept has outgrown the need in Canada but it hard to overcome the mentality of selling at lower margin.

Totally agree...it's all about what the market will support...the US economy is still in the ground so everything down there is way cheaper than here now, and even what it used to be there a few years back...vehicles, toys, real estate, building supplies, groceries...everything!! Canadians are seen as a 'rich' society, now more than ever so I wouldn't count on this trend changing at all, anytime soon...unfortunately

I always do my part to support my community first. That being said, I saved over $4000 on my 2011 Etec and over $15,000 on the 2010 fifth wheel.

My recent purchase was a BV2S BRP helmet, on line saved almost $300.00 and delivered to my door in the country!

Have not seen any good reason but I know the savings are better in my pocket!

Health care isn't free, 10-25% higher wages, pension plans paid by employer. These are all things that canadian retailers have to pass on to the consumers to make money. When you buy things in the states on line, don't complain when you cant find a good local dealer or retailer. I agree its frustrating but punishing locally owned companies like your sled dealer because the manufacture sells for less in the states is not the way to fix things. Don't ask me how to fix it though, I've been a goodyear dealer here for quite a while and on some products i can purchase the tires cheaper from Tire Rack than from Goodyear Canada.

I bought 4 bikes now in the US in last 6 yrs,all half price or less ..friend bought a new 1800 Gold Wing,saved $10,000. has no warrenty,but dont need with a Honda,and if he did,Montana Honda dealer 1 days drive..

My Ford comes factory with 20" tires, staying with the factory size and really the only one who offer's them is Fountain Tire. So I called across Alberta, and the overall price was $2200.00 mounted and balanced. I called Les Shwab in Masoula(sp*) and they told me $1068.00 DONE!!!
I booked an appt, left friday night, got a hotel, tires and breaky Sat morning, diesel, claimed my tires at the border ($62.00) brought back a 6 pack of MGD and a pack of Marlboro reds, got home round trip in 17hrs and saved $700.00
I called fountain tire on Monday, told them that I bought my tires in the States and they said that they would warranty them. So even if the dollar does go to chit, I'll still go back as long as I own the truck.
I do understand supply and demand, but it really can't be that much over ours???

It's not it's gouging. I vote with my dollar. I refuse to pay the markups here unless I have to. Any vehicle parts are bought in the states. I've bought 2 sets of tires now in the states, drive on them for a couple years and STILL sell them for more then I paid, because prices are so much higher here. Heck I can get them shipped to my door UPS and STILL save huge. The thing that kills me is the tiny parts. A $10 part from the usa, can be $60-$70 here. And the crappy part is, if you only need one part shipping, brokerage fees kill the savings. But it pisses me off that it's 6 or 7 times the dahm price.

The reason most of the stuff costs a lot more is because they think they can get away with it....If people don't put up with it, it will stop. I understand prices need to be a bit higher because wages, etc are higher here. But most price differences are way to high.

You probably have the 20" wrangler at/s and yes the cost is that much higher. I make 20% mark up on that tire if i'm lucky. And yes, any fountain tire will warranty the tire as i don't ask were you bought it. I wish I had a good explanation for you but goodyear has told us the united states is a different market and until we can purchase as many tires as companies like les shwab the price will not come down. just a little side note, you wont get free flat repairs, road hazard warranty, or free rotations, only manufactures defect warranty. Those are the things you get when you buy local, so if you get a hole in the sidewall of one of those tires and its not repairable your savings are gone.

nice i have a new superduty and i will need new tires next year and they are 20 inch i will be doing the same thing and some back too school shopping for the kids
