May as well add my two cents!
Last spring, the wife and I priced out a brand new Subaru in Calgary. Afetr the options and a few other items we checked into, they wanted almost $36K! They wouldn't even budge on the processing fees etc! I was willing to make a cash deal too. This one kills me, I bring them MY BUSINESS ... and they wanted to charge me about $600.00 in processing fees! So I tell the wife to look online in Kalispell. The service was excellent! They bent over backwards to find the unit we were looking for. We had to settle for a different color but no big deal. In the end, we saved about $9K and even had extra options at no extra cost to us (fog lights) that the Calgary dealer wanted another grand for. Sure we paid a $200 import fee and GST at the border but we are still way further ahead by about $9K! When it's service time, we head to Montana and they are waiting for us at the time agreed upon and finish when they say they will. Here it's "give us the vehicle for this day and we'll see what we can do!"
I do try and support the local economy but when they have the attitude where they get up in the morning to see who they can screw over, my dollar is mine to do what I choose with!

here is a little thing with the states as well and lots of it is the volume of goods they move. Take a large diesel company in the states in July they sold 1.1 million in aftermarket truck parts in 1 month! were in canada are you ever gonna move that much in 1 month? but They also have 90% of there prices marked down as low as they can possibly go for advertised prices. If you look at a canadian website you rarely see the prices of the parts being advertised. The states is notorious for "Whoring " out there prices. The canadian market is slowly changing atleast in my industry it is. i can get more and more aftermarket parts from canada for the same price as you get them in the states it's slowly coming along but it really needs to pick up

My Ford comes factory with 20" tires, staying with the factory size and really the only one who offer's them is Fountain Tire. So I called across Alberta, and the overall price was $2200.00 mounted and balanced. I called Les Shwab in Masoula(sp*) and they told me $1068.00 DONE!!!
I booked an appt, left friday night, got a hotel, tires and breaky Sat morning, diesel, claimed my tires at the border ($62.00) brought back a 6 pack of MGD and a pack of Marlboro reds, got home round trip in 17hrs and saved $700.00
I called fountain tire on Monday, told them that I bought my tires in the States and they said that they would warranty them. So even if the dollar does go to chit, I'll still go back as long as I own the truck.
I do understand supply and demand, but it really can't be that much over ours???

My GM came with factory 20" Goodyear tires. Called 2 Fountain Tire stores and price was between $1650 - $1700 plus tax. Called my local tire shop and he brought them in for me.....$980.00 tax in.
