With one easy change, over 20,000 more Canadians made fewer trips to the gas station in 2016

Thanks to increasing gas prices, Canadians from coast to coast are bracing themselves for a more expensive year of driving in 2017.
As a result, more and more Canadians are turning to hybrid vehicles to help combat the high cost of fuel.
Canadian hybrid vehicle sales were way up in 2016 as more drivers found the switch an easy way to save money for their households.
“It’s a no-brainer, especially as the price of gas continues to climb,” said Stephen Beatty, vice president, Toyota Canada Inc. “Today’s hybrid vehicles use about 30% less fuel on average than their conventional gas counterparts, so that’s a lot more money staying in people’s pockets.”
And more Canadians are catching on every year.
Last year, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) set another Canadian benchmark, selling 19,787 hybrids – an all-time annual record that was up 45.2% versus 2015.  TCI has been the leader in the Canadian hybrid vehicle market, accounting for more than three-quarters of all hybrids sold since 2000.
Such substantial savings are a big reason for record hybrid sales, but hybrid vehicles are also quieter, more powerful and often offer more standard features than their conventional gas counterparts, all while letting drivers reduce their carbon footprint.
“It’s an easy switch. They don’t have to change their fueling or driving habits at all. No charging. No worrying about long trips. They’ll just enjoy making fewer trips to the gas station.”

In them hills.
To bad gas prices are being artificially inflated by governments of lesser intelligence. One change in government, Mr. Olerey aka Canadian Trump, and all these green tech companies will be licking their wounds.

Hybrids aren't very practical if you do a lot of highway driving either. Most of the fuel economy gains are during city driving.

So buy a hybrid for $40k to save a few hundred bucks or a few k a year with better gas mileage? Do any of these morons know how to use a calculator?

How much direct taxpayer money goes in to subsidize every hybrid sale in Canada?

You simply do not get something for nothing. These hybrid vehicles have large batteries in them that will become their own environmental issues when the reach the end of their useful life. Then consider the making of them, where did the lead come from? A mine someplace with a bunch of very non hybrid heavy equipment to extract it, and a bunch of other not environmentally friendly processes to finally wind up with the lead needed for for said batteries, or how about the plastic case the battery is made of? I believe there are many large carbon footprints stomping all over to wind up with plastic.
Yes a hybrid burns less gasoline, but the carbon foot print crap.......pffff. Until we get get hybrid drilling rigs......wait a minute! Drilling rigs are hybrids, they have Diesel engines to produce electric power, were good!! LOL

Also if you compare apples to apples ie:a hybrid versus the same car as a non hybrid
If you figure differential in purchase price how much are you really saving ? These days some of these small cars are getting damn good gas mileage.I think if you figured it out it would not be as much savings as you might think.

So when they shut down the coal generated electrical plants, where is all this electricity going to come from?

New plan to dam up Elkford valley and put in powerplant. Doug better waterproof your basement.
They will flood more of BC and sell the power to Alberta.
