I wish Trump would stfu about this, it ain't up to him, it's up to the people of Canada. Personally I think Canada should create their own Constitution and mirror it to ours, divide all the provinces into states, vote like we do, 2nd Amendment, free speech, yadda, yadda, yadda. Anyways, that's my thoughts on the subject.

So become a state.....then divide the current provinces into states etc. I think the US has done the work of the constitution etc, why should Canada go through the effort when its already done? Just join.

I agree its up to the Canadian people but see below. Trump is just sparking conversation, both neg and positive its still sparking conversation where there wasn't much before.

I don't know if i would trust the people of Canada to fully understand the benefits of being a state. Too many people have no clue about constitutions etc. They clearly wont understand benefit of what the US has until the Canadian govt tries to literally destroy its people at their own doorstep etc. One has to remember, Canada is 100 yrs behind the US in its constitutional thinking etc. Canada is more socialist than the the US, by fair bit.

We already don't have free speech, no one cares. They are close to confiscating our guns, not many care enough to do anything. Hell many are more than happy for our guns to be taken. Canadians have been brainwashed and programmed against the US for so long that its blasphemy for them to think the US has something good that we could benefit from.

Canadians national identity is......we aren't Americans. That's how bad the brainwashing is.

I think national pride would cause many of your fellow Canadians to not want to join us but I'd be fine with the western provinces joining, that way I can drive from Alaska to the lesser 48 without a freaking passport/card and no border guards to inspect my ch!t and fine for no reason at all.

I agree, the national pride is what would get in the way. I too would like that option with no borders/passports etc. I think all Canadians/Americans would like that, not to mention the currency change. Canadians would become 30+% richer instantly.

Would it be hostile though? Here is less taxes, more bang for your buck, more protection from the govt, more freedoms etc .......but......you have to give up being a slave to the monarch and start thinking like a free individual (which comes with some responsibilities).

Not sure how you do that math. Everything you own is in Canadian $ and would be need to be converted to US$ which currently is at a 1.43. Also, pretty sure companies would make drastic wage reductions across the labour force to reflect the currency difference. Sure, we would be better off eventually tax wise, etc, but not sure how we are all 30% richer overnight.
