I think the American vendors love UPS because UPS goes to their door and picks up the freight. We can get some stuff sent via USPS and will cost way way less money but the problem is the American vendors have to take the freight to the post office and that I'm sure would be a pain in the butt for them. Pretty good gig UPS has going on. I just ordered EPS for my rzr from an American vendor. Paid 60 shipping. Went to pick it up on Friday and had to pay UPS another 54.56 in the name of brokerage fee. bullch!t. Opps sorry.

Does anyone know who owns UPS and where does that brokerage fee go to? Does UPS keep that money or does some go to the Canadian government? Sorry if I got off track on this thread.

Most items the only money that goes to the gov't is 5% GST. That is why USPS only charges a flat $5 fee, plus the 5% GST that the gov't gets. They make a KILLING. If you ship air the fee drops, but shipping charges get insane. They get you either way.

If you argue with UPS you can get the fees dropped a bit. The best solution though is only getting stuff shipped USPS. Even in Canada where there isn't the crazy fees, just stop giving UPS and Fedex crooks ANY business possible.

Part of the 54.56 will be gst on what you bought. rest is BS.

Yes but you are Cyle and I'm sure worth every penny of that big fat raise....us mere mortals who have a firm grasp on reality understand that over the past few years things are not what they once were ecomnomically... recession maybe not but commercial construction companies booking over 30 million in projects very quickly had to learn to get by on 10 million... Now your employer is lucky because he has you but unfortunately there is only one of you any many buiness out there..... things are starting to ramp up again but for those busineses not employing Clye it's been a lean few years...

That is the thing I find so funny. People comparing now to the last few insane years. Companies were laughing all the way to the bank with record profits when it was insane. A lot of companies were stupid and though they'd get those insane rates forever. Right now it's back to reality. Stuff is still going good. And if you have one great year and one shitty year it should balance out. But it doesn't the second it's not insane all companies will whine and cry how they are making no money.

UPS tags on brokerage fees on every item on its value, fed ex only adds brokerage to items that get pulled, so just for shits and giggles its like saying 10 out of 10 ups packages get charged brokerage fees and 2-10 fed ex packages get charged, many go through with no additional fees. thats how it was explained to me. so the chances of not getting that stupid brokerage bill is a lot less with anyone but UPS.

I've never not had the fees with fedex. Sometimes they drop it off and send you a bill like a month later though. Although I like it that way because I don't have the pay their insane fees.

I know if the value is like $100 or less SOMETIMES there will be no fees at all but it's rare with UPS or Fedex as they like those crazy fees.

I'm not pizzed at the workers..... it's the union leaders that need a swift kick in the azz... they are the ones behind the demands, it's more political than anything...

I still blame the workers as well...They chose to be in a union...they could have looked for work elsewhere...If you are in a union job, you made your bed...Take your lumps...

IMO the union is archaic and served its purpose 80 years ago when labour codes were week and employers took advantage of them. Now days the labour code is strong and protects the employee. How can the union justify a janitor working in a hospital making $22-26 bucks an hr but a nurse starts off at that rate and peaks low $30.00. The nurse had to go to school for years with student loans and has a huge responsibility in her hands. A few years ago the longshormen went on strike.....more precisely the crane operators who load the ctr ships. These guys get paid over $60/hr plus a lot of benefits. Approx 60 guys went on strike for a couple weeks if I recall and they costed the Canadian economy $3 billion and yours truly $19,000. So you will never get any sympathy from this guy. Now get back to work or maybe you should give it a go out in the real world if you think you have it tough. My 2cents worth

Well sir the problem with your argument is that USPS will only handle freight that is so big and when they won't accept it you are forced to shop via a courier company. I would love to stop giving to UPS but most US vendors only ship via UPS.

ALSO..... as a crown corporation those same folks that have been forced to take pay freezes and pay cuts are the ones who still pay the taxes that cover postal workers wages... why should you get more while your employers get less?????

When is the last time CP turned a profit??????

Canada post makes money for the gov't, the gov't, (taxpayer) doesn't fund Canada Post.

Bogger, Canada Post has made a profit every year for the last 16.
•Since 1997, Canada post has recorded over $1.6 billion in net profits

•Since 1997, Canada Post has paid over a half billion dollars to the federal government in dividends

seems to me many people in non-unionized environments have taken pay freezes and even cuts as many small/mid size companies struggle to ride out the recent economic tide.....

I believe that unions were instumental in introducing worker rights and fair pay, but now they seem to have developed an attitude of guarenteed priviledge and feel they are entitled to whatever they wish....

Of all unions you would think that postal would be a little more cautious considering the evolution of email, online billing and competitive parcel services....

They are an essential service because we allow them to be, unlike healthcare and education we have alternatives...

My thoughts exactly

Many of them did not want to strike at all, but the union rules, many still came to work until they finnally got locked out.
I don't think it's all the lower employee's (mail carrier's) fault here, it's the heavy hand of the union that is asking for far too much.
Most of these folks that you are upset with are just poor bastards like the rest of us that would be working if they could, they have bills to pay same as the rest of us !!

In some respects yes, and in some no, i'm not a union fan, never have, and i blame the heads of the union as much of the next guy.... but a lot of the unions ideas stem from the workers they are representing, the lowly depot worker etc.

Maybe in communist China. You can move there if you like!

What does China have to do with anything?
Flawed argument based on negative emotions.

I retract then.... I didn't bother researching just figured it would be a losing venture like every other government agency...

Why do stamps go up every year then????

"Canada Post wants to reduce the pay of new employees to $17.50 from $24 an hour."

What a bunch of whiners. $17.50 is MORE than a starting employee there deserves anyway. Most laborers or beginning apprentices start at less. As far as I'm concerned they should be just north of Wal Mart wages.
