Shawn, I don't know that there are more sledders in Calgary and yes, Calgary is closer to the mountains, but there is a huge and I mean huge sector north, west and east of Edmonton that is into sledding. Whether it be in Valemont, McBride, Hinton, Edson, Grand Prairie, Peace River, Ft St John, Dawson Creek, Ft. Mac, St Paul, Bonneyville, Vegerville, Vermillion, Lloydminster, and the Edmonton show has grown into the biggest in western Canada by far. Even people from the NWT and the Yukon have been known to frequent the show! All the trail riding in the NE of the province is probably bigger than the mountain segment in Calgary!

It's sort of like Dusty says, "....10% of the sledders are mountain riders." But I, also like it that way as in our area there aren't a lot of crowds!"

Ya, I agree, peeps further north seem to be more outdoors orientated. But I don't get why so little interest in Cgy? Bunch of urbanites down here I guess. I should be glad there is so little interest in the outdoors in Calgary...fewer crowds at my favourite spots.

Could be the last year for the Calgary show if the locals dont support it and go to Edmonchuck. For the first season we are having a retail booth at the show with some pretty good deals( we usually just work at the BRP booth). See you all there.

Our closest local ski hills; COP, Sunshine, Nakiska, and Lake louise, and club run motocorss track (Wild Rose Track off Blackfoot trail)kick the ch!t out of anything Edmonton has to offer, Last time I checked Golden and Fernie ar only 3 hours away and have killer sledding, we just lack trails....
IMO, the Calgary show happens too late, during opening mountian sled season, so a majority of Calgary sledders are riding during the show....

Edmonton is blue collar and Calgary is white collar.
You can typically base the season on how many attend the show in Edmonton. If those guys are working, attending the show and spending money then you will see them on snowmobiling holidays during the winter.
Maybe having the show in Calgary earlier might help, like a lot of you have said most people are riding by the middle of Nov. The Calgary show seems to die just a bit more each yr.
I think we all should have shows like they do in the states with swap meets.

Stuff seems to be on display rather than for sale at the Calgary show.
How true.. No sales at the Calgary show. Hell I watch every one going nuts over KLIM gear for full retail at the Calgary show.
Then I call my dealer (Mr. R's) or visit Michelles store in Sicamous and buy it for 25% off those prices.

Thanks Steel town for setting up a retail booth at the Calgary show. If we had more retail booths at the Calgary show it would make it things better for everyone - more stuff to buy brings more people... I will be attending the Edmonton show and the Calgary show to support both shows.

We usually get a group together to head to the Edmonton Show. Last year you could get a good deal on an avy pack in Edmonton and a few weeks later in Calgary there were no deals at all.
I stlll go to the Calgary show but take Polaris for example: they bring absolutely nothing to sell. The show is the perfect place to make the sale. I rarely go to the dealers cause driving there is a major pain lately (damn Deerfoot).

I also think the stampeded grounds are not the best place. I think their rates are pretty high. There must be a better venue that's more cost effective, that doesn't compete with other events which I'm pretty sure is the reason for the show being late.

They should designate an area in the parking lot for a swap meet too. That was one thing I liked about the 1st show I went to at the barracks.
