Okay with all the snow down and on its way I am thinking a quick ditch ride around town either Saturday or Sunday. I have never riden the ditches around Calgary so where would be the best place to go?

just remember the culverts are on the centre of ditch and/ or approach, may have to go for a dewinton rat ride, there's some awesome drifts on the east/west ditches, just west of us. saw fresh tracks last nite by chaparral in centre median on 22x. too bad it's friggin cold.

I have actually done 22x a few times last year...but make no mistake its NOT legal to do so....

personally I would pick a road like 549 or 533 that is less travelled....I think with all the accidents and poor road conditions....the fuzz have bigger fish to fry and there is less chance of getting bounced.....

I personally would try it more often if I lived on a acreage or similar......but its harder to be transparent when you have to transport your sled out there......

the good thing is for every mile of road...is two miles of ditch !!!

Load up drive outta town 10 mins on a Rural road, first stubble field you see with the straw standing pull in unload and let her buck.Has to be stubble so its smooth and has a bit more snow trapped.I Just got back from doin exactley that. and I smell great.lol:beer: And I think the sled looks happier also.

every county in alberta has their own rules regarding riding an ohv in a right of way (ditch). Around Calgary, all ban it. The closest is the county of Willow Creek. Go to Nanton and stay south and west and you are ok. Don't go all the way to 22 or you are in a different county.

Stay off private property unless you have permission.

I am thinking of a ride on Saturday just to figure out a bog I had last year.

some hero was riding around my neighbourhood last night, spinning his track on the ice and blasting the sidewalk, why bother to go out of the city when there is so much good riding in town?

I live out in Beiseker, 35-40 min out the north end, we pound the shiz outta the ditches and fields around here all winter 5yrs no probs. Just use common sense...stay off the green feed fields ( alphafa/clover). Stubble is free game. Try not to go thru any closed gates

and for the city boys, when running a stubble field, with round bales, especially those wrapped in white, they ain't no snow drift to launch off. had a couple customers that incurred sled damage trying to launch those big drifts.;)
