Calgarians...be embarrased!

So drving home from BC yesterday afternoon. Hit the North end of Deerfoot Trail and traffic comes to a halt. We have seen accidents near the new construction a few times so I figure we are into waiting for another. Move real slow, maybe 45 minutes before we get close to the Bass Pro Shop. By now I am sure the Deerfoot is backed waaaaay up. I see cops, but they are standing around chuckling....no accident. Then I see it..............

All these cars turning into the new outlet shopping area. Seriously, it was insane the number of cars there. I cannot believe people were waiting down the Deerfoot for close to an hour to go SHOPPING!! This was just get there, then you have to park, fight the crowds and get out. IT WAS INSANE! At what point do you decide it's just not worth it. Apparently there are a few too many Calgarians that think it is.

Then I started to think "what if someone was having a baby, heart attack, or something else serious. There is no way emergency workers could have got to them. Not even the cops standing around it was that bad. All in the name of a bargain. I started to think that if somone did have a health issue or died, could you sue the outlet mall management for the chaos they created.

Hmmmm......

the only thing I know for sure is that I am glad they dont all sled or I would never get fresh tracks....



but the real problem is the road is not ready and parking is just facked so it seems worse than it is...

I would figure someone in the Calgary politics machine would have opted to sort out the traffic before this place opened. Don't they need zoning and bylaws and such?

On the other hand, I don't think Calgary even thinks about the road layouts until after stuff gets built. Seems to be the only excuse.

Actually I was at the Cross Iron Mill Mall ( Balzac Mega Mall ) on Sunday. If you entered the mall from the west via hwy 2 - then yes you waited an hour. It you entered from the east via hwy 566 - there was no wait - we drove in and parked 50 yds from the door ( just like we were at West Edmonton Mall ). When I drove to Calgary on Friday they posted signs for south bound advirtising traffic to keep right for mall traffic and left lane for Calgary traffic. On Sunday going back to Edmonton there also was signs directing traffic on which lane to use. Traffic did slow down ( at 3:30 PM) near the mall but it never stopped if you were in the left lane. There was alot of signs asking people to use the Countrty Hills Bvld ( East route ). I didn't think it was that bad. If the weather was bad it would have been a nightmare. It was better traffic flow than Wanye Gretzky Drive during the Sled and ATV show

One problem...as per the usual jerks...was those scooting down the two left lanes in hope of squeezing into the right lane near the front. Of course no one wants to let them in (as they have been waiting themselves) so these cheating jerks hold up traffic that should be free flowing.

Thats when the people being held up behind them need to get on thier horns and they will quickly continue straight under the scrutiny of others missing thier turn.
This is a problem everywhere and shows how self absorbed some people can be as if their time is more important than everyone elses... The police should make a point of staking out lane closures and ticket those who bypass merge opportunities to try and get in further up the line....

I drive FAST but courtious and expect the same.....don't do the same speed as the car beside you in the passing lane.....If I'm comming up on you at 40 km/h faster than you are traveling please get out of my way, If I'm merged over into the freeflow of a lane closure and you think your gonna pass me in the closed lane and then expect me to let you in think again.
If you think I'm following too close don't hit the brakes, I'm ready for it and can stop faster than you, you are putting others in danger just simply get the fugg outta my way.
