We canadians arent the most serious people out there. I hate to be the voice of reason here but come on. Who takes us seriously?? We moved a government debate because it interfered with the play offs. We have cheesy remakes of our national anthem. In our school we have a jazz and cheesy rock version of ocanada with a stupid guitar solo that gets played often. And i get lectured on how i am disrespectful towards my country by some fat pacee bag because i sit down at the 2 minute mark of the cheesy remake. Im sorry but countries like russia, germany, mexico, hell even iran, afganistan, etc have more patriotic anthems then us. I refuse to sit through that crap, you wonder why you see all these fags and dykes on the news? Its because we dont crack down on it and we have a "charter of rights and freedoms" thats allow those freaks to get away with it. You say that they have to conform to us? Well what identifies us??? Beer, hockey, obesity, oil? Our whole country is based off of immigraition. With out it we would dwindle. Right now the natives have the highest growing populaitions. Im sorry but its kind of assinine that we are preaching about immigrants, even though we are desendents of them. My family is ukrainian, we not native here. What makes Canada have its own identity. Although i must agree that head wear, special clothing, religious daggers, etc should not be allowed in public sector jobs.

But should be allowed in the general public??? Your statement doesnt make sense at all...So, the way you are saying it, you could wear your burka and even your dagger on the train to work, but just not AT work...Sorry doesnt work that way...

I have nothing against immigrants...My heritage too is Ukranian, and German on Dads side and Norwegian on Moms...And yes I took history and understand that our country was founded on the basis of immigration...However we still can have a national identity that does not allow burkas, veils, daggers, etc. If this happens to be something that they wear to 'their' place of worship, perhaps that can even be allowed, but seriously its back to the whole RCMP and turban thing...RCMP has a dress code and a UNIFORM and a turban was never intended to be part of it. There are many Scots here in Canada, but do we have issues with the Scottish demanding to wear kilts in the workplace instead of a uniform...no we dont. Canada as a country welcomes immigrants, and I believe always will. I do personally believe though that if your homeland sucks so bad that you choose to immigrate to Canada, you may be willing to adjust to our customs and ways of life...

If you think this is backwards, take your wife or daughter to Morroco and let them wear what we consider regular summer attire here...Then get back to me and tell me how it goes...

Longhorn, I have no problem with head wear, but full face cover im against. You see those little punks that wear their jeans past their ass and we dont publicly attack them and make huge public demonstraitions. Its not that im against your argueement but im just poking holes in this whole argueement. We cant stop people from wearing what they wear at home and on the way to work, but if your at work wear the uniform. Conform to the rules of our culture, not what we define to be our culture. Like for instance, i have no problem with the rag heads wearing what they what to wear, they came to canada, good for them. Its part of their culture, not for us to determine, asking them to give up thier religious clothing when their not "in uniform" so to speak for a job, Is like asking us to not sled or quad because they dont want us to. As much as i dislike immagrints, they have just as much right as you and i to be here. I could care less what people look like at home, but at work or while providing a public service, thats the time to conform.

And long horn, what the "fawk"? "it doesnt work that way" Of course it does. It happens all the time in our society regardless of race, religion, or culture. Theres a dress code for work. Employers could care less what employees wear at home. But at work you fall in line if you want to keep your job.

I think we are actually agreeing LOL...I have no issue if a man wants to wear a turban...so be it...unless he needs to wear a uniform that a turban isnt part of...

The reason I support the burka thing goes back to security, etc. How do you check photo ID when the person has their face covered...How do you take information from surveilance and security cameras if everyone had a mask? They want to wear it to church, go for it...want to stand behind a counter and bag my groceries...no thanks...

I do however agree, it will never happen here, just was quite intrigued today watching the news about it...

Not really looking to debate the points of it, just pleased to see ANY country standing up for their rights and their identity.

Have you never been to a Macs store?? LOL

I disagree...there are many cases in Canada where the civil rights have been argued and the worker has won. I honestly havent seen it here in Medicine Hat but sure have in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal...Burkas on a women serving behind a counter is quite common in Toronto...

As some of you guys know im from england been in canada for three years now with my wife and boy. I absolutely love it here and will abide by your laws work hard and pay my way. I really have to say sorry but i dont like the muslim religon they are changing england its not england anymore. You cant wear a cross on a necklace in places of work even though england is a christain country. They banned hot cross bunns in some schools because religons may find it offensive you have there meat shops on streets where they have to kill the animal by cutting its throat they will lnot eat our meat. My wife smokes she was not allowed to go for a smoke but they are allowed to go and pray in work time. If they will not abide by the rules and laws of the county they are in they should leave.

interesting statement where did u say ure elders came from ?

Hah, but thats where i can say that. Ukrain, but my family helped develop alberta. They bought a section of land, cleared it, and built a homestead. They practiced christianity and helped to develop alberta (in a small way) to the farming community we are today. What do these yellow monkeys and rag heads do? I respect their right to practice thier faith, but so long as they dont alter the laws and rules we have i have no beef with them. Im 16, i was born here, i have a job, im a consumer, i buy and do things that support the ways of life we have in canada. I dont alter them or attempt to make them conform to me. I abide by them. Just like the pacees, snips, etc should be doing. I have no problem with brits, germans, mexicans, etc. They actually accept and abide by the rules ans laws instead of altering them.
