Your numbers are a bit off, used 2017 doo black book like 10k not $16000, 55-60% of that is 5500-6000, 900 for parts, with tax and shop supplies thats a $1000, and then 4500-5000 in labour, my buddies had a big gouge in the ski from the log he hit under the snow so insurance added in the cost of a new ski as well, parts came to 1250 on his and with 4500-5000 in labour hit over $6000 easy so insurance wrote it off, he bought it back from insurance for a good price i guess and is gonna try and fix it himself, he also got a new one with the insurance money, after all said and done a good way to get a backup mountain sled
I wonder if any welder would take a stab at welding that cast aluminum up? Be cheaper than pulling the sled apart.

At most the sled needs an E & S Module- total retail cost of $884.98. How would replacing $900 in parts write off a $18,000 sled??? Typically insurance companies will write off a unit when the repairs approach 60% of it's value. Even at $16,000 60% is $9600. That's a lot of labor!

Dealer quoted a buddy $13000 for repairs to 2015 174", insurance paid out $13,500. And funny thing I just seen his sled for sale on kijij. Please do yourself a favor and pass on this one it was right twisted up. Called the seller and see what he had to say, had a good laugh and then called bull**** on him.

40- 50 hours labour? That just blows my mind. That’s a fully trained technician working on the sled for more than a week to complete it. It would be interesting to know what BRPs flat rate on an e & s module swap is.

Seems me like dealers may be inflating the labour costs in order to write these sleds off. Keep in mind insurance companies in Alberta are a for profit business. They will not continually loose money on these claims. They will either raise premiums or train adjusters to keep the shops in check.

That tech wouldn't last 5 minutes in my shop.

Cant wait to get a g4

I know hey? I had a chance to ride one last weekend. Hands down, the best handling machine I ever rode. Powerwise, I don't think they pull any harder then my 800 T3. But they spool up faster.

So I'm probably gonna pizz off some peeps here and maybe some dealers but first I want to say I personally don't think these times are realistic and doubt any shop can hit these numbers and do a good job. Here is what I found in Bossweb for 2018 Flat rate times for a Summit 850 platform.

S Module 4.3 hrs
E Module 6.0 hrs

Anybody that is charging 30-50 hours for this job should be shot. Anybody that wants to argue these numbers is a troll. That is all.

Sounds a little bit better. 30+ hrs and you can completely dissassemble and reassemble the entire sled - esp one that is new. Go to a garage / auto body shop for repair and first question is "going thru insurance"? We're all being screwed!

That is warranty time tho correct??

Just like auto times and warranty times, the client pay time should be 7.5 for s and 10 ish for e module, that's without any dicking around, or replacement of any thing else that's broken that doesn't come out for s and e module damage

Now I have had a g4 that's been hit so hard in the front, was replacing the nose cone and bumper, that it took me a hour to get just the pipe out as there was no Room to move it and muffler mounts were bent enough it wasn't usable either

Not all shops and techs are good though, for example buddy brought his 16 cat to our closest cat dealer for warranty work due to a reed failure and it took 3.5 hrs to "diagnose" the problem and another 1.5 hrs to change the reeds lol what a joke. Cat warranty only pays 1.5 hrs to diagnose and change reeds so he was out over $400 because of a "stellar" dealership. I told him what was wrong as Ive had the exact same issue on a couple cats and he told them it was reeds as well. Apparently it took them that long to figure out it was a couple broken reed petals. Last reed failure I had literally took me under 15 minutes to diagnose it with my camera and an hour to change out the petals and re assemble the sled.

Yup 100 agree

Now if there a bunch of aftermarket stuff done and on that's in the way, I.e power commander and such, then the tech has to diagnosis it as client pay and eliminate them as possible causes, if it all stock then thats all warranty

Yes Jeff that is the warranty labor rate. Times will change for a scenario like you encountered. I can almost guarantee you that no shop is charging that time on a work order because it usually takes longer than that. However people that are saying 30-50 hours are just fear mongering of the product for their own personal agenda in my opinion.
