take it to a machine shop, they have carbide drill bits that will have no problem drilling that easy-out, then they will remove the broken bolt

I just pulled one out of my old big red (Iabout 2 weeks ago}by the shifter inside the engine block , i bought the kit at crappy tire,

1 =Used a punch in the center of the bolt
2 used a drill + drill bit to drill thru the bolt
3 used the srew -remover bit to back it off of the block

IF I can suggest maybe get your hand on a set of reverse drill bit might come out on the first try you never know , i found a bunch of video on youtube , hope it work's for you Man!

Carbite drill bit I think might go thru the easy out
=

just remember carbide drill bits are brittle and snap easily if there is side pressure, also if you break a carbide bit you are screwed, nothing will drill it out. Carbide bits are pricey also 40-60 bucks for a 1/4 " bit.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just take it in. It's gonna be a pain in the butt thought because this bolt is behind the belt housing. I'll have to push it into someone's shop.

Can anyone recommend a shop in Edmonton?

Throw heat to the bolt with a pencil torch or butane soldering torch. Get it as hot as you can without cooking the gaskets or housing. Stick a wax candle against the bolt....if it's hot enough, the threads will wick the melted wax in. The bolt will almost fall out. The easy out may be a bit of a pain, you might have to button weld a nut onto it, but I don't think it'll be that bad

I agree with this, but instead of a welding a nut on to the bolt weld a washer on to the bolt then a nut makes it easier. If you can wait till next week I could give it a try for you. I work for beer!

Candle wax or left hand drill bit and easy out. Just drilling will unscrew the bolt.

Also never ever hurt to heat something up before playing around with a tight screw.

It's a pretty small bolt so I had trouble picturing how it would be possible to weld another bolt onto it. Didn't think of using a washer and nut. I never did learn how to weld, so I'm going to need a hand from someone - I may take you up on your offer in a couple of weeks if I haven't got it out by then.

Let me know. I have gotten bolts out that I though would be impossible before. It's probably an 8mm bolt? All I would do is use the mig welder put a few tacks on the bolt so it gets built up out of the case a bit then get a real small washer and tack it to the built up then plug weld the nut to that. Out it will come for sure!

have you ever used those specialty bolt extracting welding rods? They're called xtractalloy and work the same way as you describe with the mig except the flux on them protects and cleans the threads and the weld metal is super fast freeze with very high tensile strength.

I not sure if it was them or not but I used ones made bye arc tec 792 I think was the number on them. But they work the way you described. They worked very good. On Nabors rig 11 the one motor had a manifold bolt broke off over an inch in and got it out.

Thanks man, will do. The bolt head is 10mm and I'm guessing the bolt itself is about 5mm.

Welding a washer then nut has worked for me 95% of the time.

The bolt should be a 6 mm.

Nope, haven't had much of a chance to get at it. I was gonna try to smooth it out with a dremel and try drilling into it again, but I think it would be best to just get some help before I 'f it up worse. You still willing to help me out?
