I would have a better chance of hitting an antelope or elk than a tree...We dont have tress down here...

Stumps will not be a problem...

You have a better chance of beating a Phazer in a straight up drag race to 100mph than hitting a tree over there.

oh yea....:thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

Doug,

I have a question for you...

Do you guys run standard width tracks or do you cut them down for trail grooming? Only reason I am asking, is that we are 14' wide, and planned on cutting them down to 12' for transporting, but Im thinking we may give up some traction. If not traction some ground pressure...Without the tiller today we measured it at 0.9psi ground pressure.

Hauling it as a 14' load will require a pilot truck, but might be worth it.

Thanks

It really depends on what you want to do with it! In Fernie we have a small BR180 with steel grouzers that make the cat hang over the trailer 3" on each side so that would be 9'. When we are in the deep snow, we have trouble; trouble pushing and trouble pulling the mogul master. A lot of the trouble comes from the fact that this is a small Cat. In Elkford, with the PB200, we have the nice, aluminum grouzers that are 4'. Yes, it is a pita to transport, but it sure is nice in the deep snow and climbing the steeper hills. Saying that, groomig in Elkford is a different kettle of fish from grooming in Fernie; narrow trail, steeper climbs, and not as forgiving. The smaller tracks just wouldn't cut it.

If you ever plan on grooming in the deep mountain snow or maybe selling it and have someone from the mountains buy it, keep the 4' grouzers.

I guess another choice would be to try and find a narrower track and keep the wide one for a spare.

Just some initial thoughts, fs

you will get a fine for hauling it with the tracks on. They are considered a load that can be broken down.

Thanks for you input Doug, we have decided to keep the tracks as they are, and see how it handles on the trailer, once we are in the field, I know it will be fine, we were only concerned about hauling. Nice to hear that the track width has that much effect on the traction. We will try and keep it at the stock 14' width. Hugest tracks Ive ever seen!!

Definitely not...thats like saying you have to take the tracks off a dozer or trackhoe...

Got permits for 14'6" wide this morning.

Dont come through the scales in Fort st John, or Fort Nelson thats an instant fine. Just a heads up we got fined last year. I had to go pull tracks at the scale. Just like a dozer blade it takes a half an hour to pull them so they are considered a reducible load.

Sorry, I was talking about Alberta not the communist province to the west LOL.

I dont and wont haul into BC due to all the crazy and twisted rules. And yes I agree in BC this would be a no-go...

We are also staying pretty close to home with it, we dont have far trips, but wow getting lots of calls out of SK for it...if this keeps up, I will need another for next year. Shouldnt talk so fast, i guess, this one hasnt even made it to the field yet...

A half hour?? I need your help next time then...I wasnt there but it took 2 guys and a picker truck most of a day. Now in their defence, they have never done it before, but way too long.

If I knew we could do it in that time, I would likely take the wings off, and the tracks for most moves.

You just loosen them off and 3/8 cordless impact on the 4 bolts, they have to be right near the front idler, impact the rear sprocket(makes tracks slide off) then winch onto the lowbed with the tracks chained to machine, slide together, flip the tail ends up and chain down. 2 machines and you roll them up.
Instalation takes 1-2 hours just pull the tracks down roll the machine on top and reverse using a crane, come-along, or a chain on a bumper to pull them on top.

With steel it will take longer, cause of wieght, for the first couple times. You need to get good at this cause you will have to do it many times.

You have given me some great advice here so far, but for our application, we knew we had to try and move it around with the tracks and wings on...

First voyage this morning, and first real field test. Drive was a bit hairy at first, but heck 14' isnt that wide after a half hour or so LOL...

Haha, Pipes is right, but its more the issue of the race suspension on the truck, and I only had the airbags at about 60psi, it rides better this way. We had the slip tank full as well, but ran over the scales and I was good for another 1100 # on the rears, its lighter than my 410 backhoe. I would like to haul it forward, it would ride better and more weight on the trailer, but the $2800 windshiled has me a little scared LOL. Once I get a window cover then we will try and haul it forward. Might be easier to load too...but not too bad backing on, did it a few times today, and no issues.

We havent had much snow, but its drifting like crazy. We have been busy clearing leases and trails, and now today we are chasing the other plows and finishing the trails that they cant get through. There seems to be a LOT of these LOL...

Just what you wanted/needed....it's busy working!!! Atta boy....

Yea, Im pretty pleased with myself...it has logged 23 chargeable days so far, and my goal was 30 so I think its gonna work. Sad part is now we are getting calls for a second one (that I cant afford) but I did find a heck of a deal on one...

If we stay busy, this one will be coming to Canada too...
