Body Side mouldings - '09 Silverado

The ends of my body side moldings are starting to let go. Anyone have any luck re-doing the ends, or know if have to take them completely off to re-do properly?

I'd consider removing completely, but not sure if it's possible to get all the adhesive off.

Crazy how crooked these are put on from the factory when you look close at them.

Had to have mine done on my 08. Took it to a bodyshop and had them do it. Now i have another one I have to do.

Take them off, re doing the edges is just a band aid. my 2 cents....heat gun, case of beer...and patients. And you truck will look better and go way faster, adds 5 hp

Have you taken yours off? I'm having bad memories of trying to get rid of the glue behind the factory bowtie logo on the grill.

Yep, did on my old half ton years ago, almost same truck. I started with removing the Vortex Maxx gay badge. Little glue left behind but GooGone worked great. Then got brave and did the doors. I rushed and got sloppy but it came off. The pass side was a breeze. Boiling hot water to loosen it up, give a few light pulls, then a little heat from a gun and slowly start peeling. Try keeping the glue to the trim not the door, makes easier to come off.... tricky part is not too much heat or the glue gets more tacky and stays on the door. Take your time, thats why i say add beer haha Keep us posted if you do it and how it went.

How long after owning did you guys try taking yours off? Mine aren't peeling but one is fading and discolouring while the other 3 still look perfect?? I'd take them off but I'm worried the paint might look different from sun fade as the truck lives outsides and it's a 2011... anyone experienced obvious sun-fade on their truck?

I used to have a roll of double sided tape (used in the automotive industry) that was great for vehicle mouldings It was made by ?? Tesa ??, was red in color. I have used it for fixing the exact issue you are experiencing with good results.

forgot to add...truck was 09 and it was done in 2016...looked good to me.

We do a TON of 07-13 Gm trucks. The plastic they used was the issue, sweats out the release agent. You need to remove all the old tape and residue, then wash with hot soapy water, let dry, then treat with a product called primer 94. Before retaping. Otherwise you will have the same problem again.

my truck was the gold/pewter color so i didn't see any issue with sun fade...maybe a black truck or red would be dicey.

Mine is silver and the timeline is relative (09-16 vs 11-18). Maybe I will give it a go... there's also some videos I remember watching on YouTube about heating it and using dental floss to cut them off. Seemed to be another method that worked well

Cut the bulk of it off carefully with a NEW clean razor blade. Eraser wheel (can put it in a drill instead of buying the tool) for the painted surface, and acryl-safe adhesive remover for the mouldings.

This is the colour fading I was talking about, which is why I want to take all mine off. Except it's only this one piece all the rest are fine

I have a 2016 chev, I got all the tags removed by "medler" here on the site. He used a extremely strong dental floss, attached to 2 sticks. He went under all my raised letters and popped them off in a split second, removed the bow tie from the tailgate in about 3 seconds. Then he used the rubber eraser (as already metioned). Took all the stickers off with the wheel, and the left over goo from the letters and bow tie. He gave the residue a quick wipe with solvent and a soft rag.

He did all of this in his garage, before I could drink 1 beer.

I'll never piss around with a heat gun, razor blades, and cheap adhesive remover. I'll go to someone who knows what they are doing, or just pay the hour at a body shop and get r done

I went through this with my 2010 GM as well. 3 of 4 moldings started coming off at different times. I got out the little rolling seat and the beer in the garage...took my time cleaning all the residue from the 3M tape. Cut and re-applied new 3M tape. Re-installed and let cure. By the time #4 started falling off, one of the first ones I fixed was coming off again. I used windshield urethane the 2nd time around. Sorry if anyone on here ever ends up with that truck....

I pulled the ones off my black 09 in 2015. I was worried about some fade but it wasn’t there after a good polish.

Make sure you use the goo off or goo gone in the tin can. It works 4x as well as the plastic bottle stuff and sometimes you need to get it at an auto body shop if you do pull them off.
