Anybody ever been through one of these stupid things, and for everyone that don't know now it's illegal to transport your boat with the plug in what a joke

Went through one last year, they started into me re the drain plug.....When I pointed out the boat ( a surf boat) had three drain plugs and if the point was to make sure that no water was left in the boat that could be transferred to another lake, I then asked what about the three ballast tanks, even drained at the lake, they retain a small amount of water...he was aware of the problem, but had no answers and gave me a clean check over and waved me on....

Its not a joke when an invasive species destroys an aquatic system and ruins It for the purpose of pleasure craft use(Asian Carp), OR environmentalists use this threat as justification to propose closures to powered vessels on navigable waterways which is happening right now on a large river in BC .

Respect the waterway you enjoy , clean your bilge, drain your boat, its not that hard and frankly what experienced boater leaves the plug in anyway???

I don't see the big deal pull your plug, leave it on the back of your boat drive away, stop 10km down the road to make sure you lost the plug, stop at Canadian tire on the way home to buy a new plug! It's not that hard! It can be a big fine and if you read the fine print your supposed to sponge out the water that doesn't drain.

it is a joke alberta worried about their lakes? i think everyone else should be worried, this province couldnt manage a goldfish, and i think rainwater in the bottom of you boat is really gonna help the aquatic system, and as far as the plug i have one in a 12ft fishing boat thats been in there since 81 thats how my plug never comes out, and id love to see a person sponge out their boat as its pouring rain out and your pulling it home, its just a money grab, going through ropes and anchors hitting a boat motor to get a drop of water out making a person remove their propeller to get water out, and checking their brake pads for wetness its outta hand

My drain plug in my jet boat is a pain to get out. The only time I ever take it out is at the end of the year after I spray out the boat for storage. I pull the plug, wait till all the water is out, then right back in it goes. Seen to many people forget to put the plug in when launching there boat. Seen a couple almost sunk. I run 2 bilge pumps with one positioned as close to the bottom keel back transom as I can.. and I run them when I get to the trailer.....always drained pretty much dry. The comment about the ski boats with ballast tanks is also valid...how far is this gonna go? Getting ridiculous.

Are they looking for anything else ?...such as trailer breaks, lights, registration numbers on side of boat. I have not got around to getting numbers made for the side of boat yet, I know they can fine you for it if not visible on both sides of boat.

The one I went through at the Alberta bc border was very easy. Just asked me where I been wher I am going did a quick look and said have a good day. I think only fish cops look for the numbers. And it wasn't the fish cops doing the inspections it was bc gov

I've rolled through a couple in the last few years. No big deal. Quick look for anything stuck to the underside and question about the plug. I always pull both plugs when traveling. No big deal. Wasn't there 5 minutes.

Agreed......HOWEVER.....i find it agrevating to no end that it seems like a vast majority of the folks who are in charge or running these check stops do not have the knowledge to understand certain equipment, types of boats, and other deficiencies that are a problem when it comes to getting all the water (ie surf/wake/ski boats) and then start to ask for unneeded and unacceptable ways of proving this. I have been asked in the past to prove my impeller (jet boat) wasn't holding water (? I'm guessing in the bowl/Volute/stator) ummmmmm ok, I will just whip out my packable tool box for you and get right at that .....when I said that's not gonna happen very easily they asked me to start the boat to blow any water out. Now depending on the model of jet used this is not good practice at all and can lead to damage to certain components. Not that I couldn't with my set up but they shouldn't be demanding to have his done. Have even heard of telling people to take off the propeller on some boats as well. Can't confirm this though. Anyway They were hesitant but after explaining they decided to give me a warning. WTF. Literally a "we will let you off this time but be prepared to maybe have to start or take apart your boat. There needs to be some common sense and training for this. I can't believe I have to put up with this and pay for this.

Oh really and who are you the head whip of environment? it is stupid they never cared about this years ago, you just wait until they say no more boating due to the fuel fumes around the lake, than what are we all supposed to do that's the problem with us were all to soft just say alright no problem and go along with things, and you better make sure your exhaust pipe and hitch and bumper is clean when we back in the lake Alittle to far as we could be contaminating other lakes ,I'm sure a drop in the brake drum of my boat trailer is really gonna damage another water system, your probably one of those same guys that don't like lead for goose hunting either, yet we wound more birds with steel than we kill,

Yes it can. They say when hopping lakes to wash your boat,trailer and flush your motor in between. Probably not a huge deal unless you cross provinces or going from one side to the other of the province but necessary if you are. I wouldn't worry about going from sylvan to gull or pigeon for instance though. Unless you are going into a lake known to be contaminated.

I guess that is where the line is drawn between responsible boating and those who don't really give a rip about much of anything either because of laziness or just don't care. Most of that type of people are that way with pretty much everything they do, don't consider the consequences of their actions and don't care.
Fall's in the same category as those ripping up meadows with their 4x4 or ATV so to get muddy, sledders going into avy zones or into closed off areas for caribou and helmet law's.

Wash down of your boat is not a big deal, it is common practice with the majority of boater's at the coast coming out. Many large marina's have wash down station's for boats. Doing a walk around and inspection only takes minutes while your strapping down. Draining the boat and pulling the plugs is proper boating practice when transporting. Just like having the proper REQUIRED safety equipment and gear on board for the boat you own.
You would know this if you stayed in step with marine regulation's. Which BTW is mandatory as a boat operator.

wow arent you full of information this province can barely manage a jackfish right in our lakes now theyre worried about aquatic stuff maybe focus on one thing at a time, its a money grab is all it is, checking my paddles and ropes is a waste of time, if its not a big deal than you come scrub my boat down, and i dont live at the coast, and the safety gear on the is stupid to, years ago we never had anything and we all survived now we need a licences to drive a 9.9 motor after 45 years, its a big money grab and joke is all it is,

I drain each time for many reasons, big rain storm ect cab fill the boat up

Not hard to drain at all
