Hi everyone!! Ok a couple weeks ago I bought a 2005 Summit Highmark 1000 RT 162" the top end was blown but he already sent the jugs down to Millenium Technologies and they already did the NiSil treatment, the dang thing looks brand new! Anyways I went ahead and bought the new nylon coated pistons for it, Dynaport pipe and can, it came with a Straightline Performance can, so I have the option on going with either can, now keep in mind this machine has never been wrecked or trail bumping so the sled is "very" tight, no loose stock rivets, but it has had 1500 miles of deep powder Thrashing with poor engine maintenance, the typical excessive belt dust in the air horns, sooo I decided to pull out the bottom end last night and disassembeled and found the block to be cracked in 2 spots where the bottom of the skirt came off and rolled up between the crank and case, and all the bearings are rough along with the oil pump bearings not spinning, 1 pin on the crank side of 1 rad is scarred, " should I repair the block and have the crank fixed by a machine shop? or would it be cheaper to buy another bottom end? " either way I am already $4000 into my first sled and I need a cheap way out, I am 42 and I am easy on my stuff, I usually tail up the backside with my friends, and I dont Highmark, I just like to get there with ease and then kick back and watch everyone else tear up their stuff.

well your cheapest way is to find a bottom end off a blown top end but not crack make sure you inspec first..... if not by a new one then you know what your getting.... it is hard for anyone to fix cracks might be costly but you could check into it as well

Depending how bad its cracked and where, you may be able to weld up.I,ve welded lots of cases that were split in throw area.Only other option is new or used case! The new case is not cheap and you maybe further ahead to buy short block?Last one I bought was 2800cdn.Pm me and I'll give you a number of a guy with some 1000 rt engines forsale.

Good luck finding a blown top end with a good bottom end for a 1000 weak point was the crank.
That being said I did mine 2 seasons ago used bottom end new crank pistons wrist pin bearings oil pump all gaskets grease etc for 1800.00 did the work myself. 860 for a crank is a little high I think. If I remember right I paid closer to 700 with the isoflex grease.
All parts purchased through parkland motorsports in stony plain
Good luck
Allot of machine for a follower though. Just sayin if you ride like you say you do would have been just as well off with a 144 600 and never have to worry about engine problems again
