I've been complaining about my oil consumption since it finished break in (and have gotten roasted for it people calling me cheap or whatever)...

and I'm on belt #11 at 1700 km (also gone through 11 jugs of oil)

My motor came out because of a few other issues and dealer found a substantial leak at the oil pump which sits right by the belt

let's see if this fixes my oil usage and hopefully my belt issues.

anyway, have your shop check out your oil pump if you are blowing belts and/or going through more oil than you think you should

So if you had blown that many belts and went through that much oil. It was not noticed that there was a oil leak until the engine went down???
I'm confused

2200 Bucks worth of belts and 500 in oil and yah just kept riding?

I didnt see any oil while i was doing my regular maintenance / clutch cleaning... and you are correct .. it went un noticed until the engine came out for water pump leaks .. luckily I am not paying for belts .. but I sure did pay for all that oil .. my dealer is going to try and get some free oil for me from BRP ..

44 liters of oil in 1700 km? You either had a massive leak or you ran 100% of the time at 100% throttle position? Thats crazy. Did your dealer even ask you to do a oil mileage test? They should have tried a new pump? If it was leaking into the clutch area it would be easily seen and there would be puddles on the floor?

Holy **** you guys. The dude has had nothing but grief and comes here offering a possible solution for the rest of us to investigate and everyone here just flames him. What a ****ing joke. This is why everyone with any sort of technical information posts on snowest because they can't handle the constant bash fest here.

Sidewaysinto3rd, thank you for the post and I hope you've found the culprit here.

I do appreciate the info shared BUT A better post would of been if the oil leak repair helped his oils usage and now he doesnt blow belts.

I appreciate the reply the OP gave to my comment and i hope it was not taken the wrong way which others may of suggest.

The problem on here is the LACK if info when info is provided, it leads to more questions that are usually left unanswered.

Alot like the OP, cause the biggest red flag was the comment about the oil usage and nothing about the belts. 11 belts in 1700 km! You sir have used more belts in 1700 km than I have in 17000km.

Yup when you pay 17000 for a sled and have problems it is the dealer that needs to figure it out. Pretty sure it was at the dealers more than once

correct .. its been to the dealer many times and it's there right now

I will post an update once i get her back and monitor my oil usage and belt temps

I've had a loaner 850 for the last 2 days and I can tell you with certainty that the belt issue has nothing to do with clutch calibration, or taking out foams and other crap people have been doing.

My loaner sled is bone stock, has most of the foam and felt in, we just had a massive snow roll through and its been choker pow for 2 days, and I have not been kind to it ... no issues. In comparison with my buddy's 850 the clutch temps are considerably cooler.. his 850 has all the outside vents, all the foam removed and added weights.. we did the same ride, pulled over and snow would immediately sizzle off his clutches ... on my loaner it would just melt to water and drip

sure enough he blew a belt that day and no issues on mine while I was being completely unkind to her... (hope my dealer isn't on this forum .. sorrrrry!!!!) next day, same thing .. absolutely throttle to the bar all day .. out of gas in 3 hours .. cool clutches and no issues.

I have faith that we will see an actual announcement from BRP once they release the 18s.

I know others in my area who have blown more belts than me.

I have 1100 Kms now and ran 5 full jugs of oil thru the 850 mill but still on original belt..... but she drinks the 50$$ jugs of oil like crazy and no leaks on mine...yet... the belt issue 11 belts is insane...... these forums should have a truth meter so readers can sift out the truth from all the fiction
