My family and I are curently staying at the BestWestern and we are not IMPRESED. What used to be a great hotel is now a reason to not come to Vailmount. I used to come here because the hotel allowed dogs and has a large common area that family and friends could sit around the fire and have a couple drinks. Now the common area is a Lounge/Pub/Restarunt, with all these rules. Kids have to be out @7pm, dogs are not allowd but you cant leave them alone in the room. If it is a Lounge or Pub it should have a door so that people wiht kids checking in after 7 are not subject to a drinking type establishment atmospher with $7 drinks as soon as they walk through the hotel door. The Best Western Valemount is no longer the great "Family Friendly, Pet Friendly homey hotel that we have been staying at for 10 plus years..now its just another alcahol pushing - rules rules rules moneygrabbing establishment that will have us booking elsewhere!!

No offence but ive never really been a fan of pets being allowed in hotels.. but thats just because the select few who's dogs bark, pee and make a mess of the place (not all owners have bad dogs though).

I was recently at the Best Western at VALEMOUNT and i had a great time, Decent parking, friendly people etc. We just made the mistake of having breakfast there $$$ l

Seven dollar beer.:d. lol have you ever been to oilers or eskimo game... yikes damn herion beer is overpriced. but it sure helps you cheer.

Yeah we stayed in November, they had a stay 2, 3rds free deal. That was nice, love the pool and waterslide but the hottub was filthy! Black scum ring around the top! YUCK! What annoyed me more was the price of food and drink in restaurant. For that money i'd rather eat at the Caribou Grill in town.:(

Did you inquire as to why they changed?

Hmmm a small town hotel that used to allow kids and animals in a common area with alcohol no longer allows it. Seems like thats a wise decision on their part as BC always has strict rules on minors in areas where alchol is consumed, and well, even though I am a dog owner and try to frequent areas that allow our four legged family member, sometimes they are better left in the care of others.

I don't know, seems like a no brainer...

my opinion is the same, you don't like animals, you don't like my money, I understand the alcohol where minors are present, but my pitbull/mastiffs deserve to be anywhere people are, you don't like it then why don't we get real racist and go back to segregation and move 40 yrs in reverse, I am a huge animal advocate and treat mine like family, they go everywhere with me and I base my vacation spots on them and this topic, go ahead and flame away all you want, if you have a pet/companion and don't do the same, you really don't deserve to have them, thanks for the info, I will never spend another night there again

yeah that sucks, the part I enjoyed most was grabbin some chairs around the fire with the wife and kids. So if we cant enjoy it together were out.
Now there will be even more drinkin and partying in the rooms that wrecks it for the neighbors...

Hey, Nothing wrong with a hotel having a lounge..Lounges are great for lounge lizards!! Most lounges are "separate rooms with doors" most are not just a sign that changes a beautiful comfortable hotel lobby into an adult only drinking establishment.
The fact is that they just arbitrarily shut down the nicest feature of the hotel to xx% of the guests with no notice...HMMMMM???? Booze is everywhere, anyway (the pool area, the upstairs lobby, the hot tub, oh and yes even in the restaurant where the kids eat..) Want some Bailies in your morning coffee? No Problem (just $7.00 extra)
Parents are usually pretty good about monitoring their children in the presence of cocktails.
Pet owners ARE mostly responsible! Sure there is the odd moron out there who does not look after their pooch's droppings and barking behavior but mostly I have no complaints. Some people let their kids make messes and scream out of control which is just as annoying but we don't lock them in the car in the parking lot (at least not intentionally HaHa).
Most sledders subscribe to the BYOB theory and are not about to pay $7.00 so forget about luring them.. They used to come down to the fire and share their riding experiences with other guest now they will just hunker down in the rooms like jail birds...Too bad that (as usual) if it used to be too good to be true some idiot will change it just to get one more looney out of us.. What's the number for the Ramada???

Are you kidding!...not if people have allergies to your family members as you put it!..Glad to know there are no pets aloud there anymore! Because when you bring your pets into a hotel your bring your life style and slapping others in the face that may have affected health problems. Maybe call ahead say your bringing furry friends then the hotel could better situate people in away that they are not effected....I like animals to but there is a place for my animals outside!

As far as pricing goes tourism is expensive and so is BC. there are some great deals at bed and breakfast spots if you check into them and some allow pets.. Most can be found on the internet. If you like socializing with crowds after a days riding i guess a B&B might not work though.

not into a childish pissing match, but the fact is if you are allergic that is your issue, so you don't stay in a pet welcome room, you don't see me going into a resteraunt and demanding they not use gluten products as I have allergies to them, as for animals outside, why not put your kids outside, it's about the same thing to those of us who value our animals? As for boycotting this particular hotel, I don't think this post is in anyway trying to do so, just merely giving those of us who may be affected by this experience a heads up and has done so for some of us, myself I will be looking into pet friendly lodging, thanks for the heads up kjoesting:beer:

Couldn't agree more, about people with pets who think that just because they are in a pet friendly room, that they aren't affecting anyone else, the're only kidding themselves.
People pay good money to enjoy all of the space the motel provides, not to have to be segregated to an outside room just because someone decides to bring some dog along, and just because they clean up their crap really has nothing to do with it. I raised two kids and never once threw a chitty diaper beside the sidewalk or on someones lawn.
Sounds like the motel is setting priorities and structuring, based on their client demands.

I agree. I am very allergic to dogs. just because it isn't in the same room as me doesn't mean it can't effect me. your dog has walked through the halways and other places. There is air circulation that can go through vents from one room to another. Even if your dog was to walk past me and lick my hand or something. I would break out into rash. Pets should not be aloud into closed public spaces unless its a dog show or pet shop.

Of course if you have allergies, and have had the misfortune of being the next guest in a room where animals spent the night, you may not agree. Put the pets with the smokers.

looks like pets are going the way of smokers, being relegated to the crappier hotels. i say charge the ch!t out of pet owners, 3 to 4 times the nightly rental, they have pet kennels for your friends. pet owners should support pet friendly hotel/motels, please support them as they have no business in an establishment for people. take them to a pet kennel or resort where they belong.
