Oh and yes, it was Mac tools that had the special on a few years back where you basically could get tools for 50% off.....one of my apprentices went out and spent $12,500 and received $25 grand worth......it was a wicked deal! I'm not sure they still have that promo but well worth a phone call to the nearest Mac tools truck.

As well, be sure to have a smart accountant do up your taxes (not those H&R Block losers) as as an apprentice you can write off some $$$ for your tools. There are $$ limits and a time limitation that you can go back and claim previously unclaimed tools.

It's funny, I bought a a cheap 3/4" drive set from a warehouse direct store because I was in a pinch. I've had a 4' snipe and been hanging off the snipe and put the sockets on my air gun. Well the breaking bar is still straight, the ratchet still works and the sockets aren't rounded or split. I figured if I got one use out of them to get me out of my bind, then they would have paid for themselves. Certainly got my 80 bucks worth out of that set!( set is about 15 years old now, and still going strong)

I bought a 3/4 deep impact socket set from princess auto years and years ago. never broke a single one. Would never buy the same same from snap on. I have a bunch of 1/2 and 3/8 socket sets from snap on that have had some serious abuse. If I had done the same with princess auto or craftsman or crappy tire they would have broken over and over again. And I have broken them again and again. Explains why I have extra socket sets at home. They are all the left overs from the crappy sets.
