Best radios to use?

ummm, but they could always hear me but i couldn't always hear them ??????? Top channel was say on RR9 and bottom was on FRS 5
Maybe I didn't have it locked????

It is more fool proof to have a model you have to turn off and back on to switch between channel and frequency modes, the ones that don't have this feature seem to switch modes even when you have hit the lock. I like taking the UV-5r because they are small, I know I hit the lock but when I stopped to check the radio it had some how went to frequency mode.

Seeing as how the uv-5r should be 5 watts this gadget maybe calibrated 1 watt to high. I will have results on a few more radios in a bit.

You could likely test 10 UV’s and get ten different results.

What radios where they using? We’re they far away? Ridges block the signal. Theirs may have only been transmitting at a low wattage and yours transmits at a higher power.

Well that model is a truck radio, so it would be no different than a kenwood or tad. Who knows maybe they are sterilization devices.

One was a Garmin 650 and one was a Baofeng. But I think my Baofeng was some how able to switch to the RR channel even though the lock was on. So I think I'll try putting mine in Tuperware containerr and see if that helps. thanks for input

After testing the 4 quanshengs, 2 of them had 0 watts on the vhf, the two that did not show any wattage on vhf showed 12.7 watts on UHF. So basically 2 are not working properly. Hopefully i never sold some that were not working right. Thank goodness for this tester.

10 more radios tested the GT-5TP's the wattage for these ranged from 6.9 watts to 7.5 watts. They were a little cranky loading with chirp so i used VIP 82 software.

I would say it is about 1.5 watts less power than the uv-82hp. And channel mode frequency mode you just push the orange button. More or less it is just a uv-5r.

So probably worthwhile switching to the uv82hp? isnt there a function lockout on the 82hp that the b2 plus doesn’t have ?

There is a UV5REX I have seen recently as well, maybe just a new case look but around $30 they are nice to keep for spares.
