My buddy just had his crank let go at the clutch in renshaw needed to get choppered out ($1950 ouch). was riding with a mechanic at one of the polaris dealers, he said 1 in 4 is letting go at roughly 1200 miles, thats a high number even if it is 1 in 40 that is still a big number, $2000 to fix (new crank, new primary clutch, labor). When he got to his sled a week later to give chopper pilot GPS location some dirty bugger was in the process of digging it out to "take the belt". Be aware of sled poachers, talk about kicking a man in the teeth when hes already down.

Why can't people just leave others property alone, it seems pretty simple to me. If you can not afford a belt for your 5k-15k sled stay HOME........

a little off topic, but does anyone drop their jerry cans off at the cabin, or do they just get stolen?

Last time we were in Zipper Mouth Creek, some guys (not in our group) came out before us and used our fuel at our drop spot.... Although they didn't use all of it, made us a little unhappy... Considering when we were loading up, all the guys we saw saw on the hill were still at there trucks and none of them said anything...

That sucks… GetR’Done.

You'd think if it were a matter of life and death, they would leave a method of getting a hold of the person that used the fuel. Or since they were still in the parking lot, find out whose fuel they used then thank and pay the person.

I would not have a problem helping a sledder out by lending him my spare fuel. I would expect the sledder to replace the fuel when they got off the mountain!

To say that I would be a little excited about finding my spare fuel used without my knowledge when I was counting on using it would be a huge understatement.

Lastly, if you're sledding in the mountains and you don't have the intelligence to bring additional fuel with you... Well, the Darwin Awards are looking for nominees!!

Sometimes natural selection can work if presented with an opportunity and allowed to fulfill its destiny!!

Its funny that you mention "note" it reminds me of a guy I knew, a farmer, that went out to his field to finish some tractor work and his battery was gone out of his tractor. He went back to the shop, grabbed a new battery and finished his work. When he got back to the house that night there was a "note" on the door saying "thanks for the battery it got me out of a real bind here is a new battery and four Flames tickets for next weekend. Buddy thought that was great. The following weekend he packed up his wife and two kids and headed into Calgary for the night. When they returned home they found that they had been cleaned RIGHT out. House, shop and garage. All quads, sleds and tools were gone. They had moved in with some sort of moving van and a crew.:eek::eek:

Wow, that's terrible, when we ride we leave our gas at the cabin all time, i guess sooner or later someone will help themselves, last trip we met a fellow on the way down the trail and he ran out gas, so i sold him mine so he could get back to the truck, one good turn deserves another.

Urban legend I think- have heard that at least five times told a slightly different way.

That sucks for the sled left - glad they didn't get anything.

Most sledders are pretty good with taking care of each other in a bind - especially in the mountains, but there is always one or two.

If you leave your fuel at the cabin it is probably the safest place. If you think about it there is always someone there. So how would a person know if it wasn`t the sledder in the cabin fuel can. If you were going to take someones fuel would you take it if someone could see you, after all, that person may have seen the rightful owner of the fuel put it there.

I heard a similar event [it was on the news a few years back] that happened to a couple living near Sherwood Park, that was no legend... actaully happen..
