Wow what a Novel.
Well said.

Great work and thank-you for your time and dedication.

I think the biggest obstacle in my mind is turning the people who will never buy a season pass into a usable number.
And is there an action plan to make the trail pass purchaser a usable number?

I like what Curtis is doing with the $30 BCSF membership, and I think more people would buy it if they understood it was going towards protecting the intrests of the sport.

Plus some clubs like Revelstoke give $5 off a trail pass for having a BCSF membership, make back your $30 in no time lol.

Can Sledders buy land?
I would be interested in purchasing some Alpine, how does one go about that?
Might even let some of you use it ;)
this lady puts so much effort into keeping snowmobiling viable and gets no recognition it's great to see people such as yourself provide positive feedback

If they did, then,(in my opinion) the whole plan is in jeopardy. The proposed rates were calculated on a certain number of existing memberships and passes, losing the income from any one of the bigger clubs means raising the rates to generate the revenue needed to fulfill the proposed paybacks to the remaining clubs and I personally don't think there will be enough support then. I would be interested to find out how many clubs have left the BCSF over this.

I have only ridden on a groomed trail five times in my life, and I did pay for access.
Some of the problem is that, as snowmobilers, we seem to be a dwindling group.
I find myself riding alone 90% of the time.
Here the local club only seems to have an annual poker run as an event.
For me I don't see any benefit in belonging to the local club or BCSF.
I don't see anyone here putting out that kind of money for virtually no benefit.

Instead of hiring lobbyists, BCSF should be ensuring we have hookers and blow available in every cabin! Because if it isn't about me me me, it's a socialist lefty plot to take all my money!

Maybe try joining your local club and getting involved to help with some of the events you would like to see?

And more phuckin cans for my empty beer cans. Last time I was there the can was full so I had to throw my empties in the corner. They should be ashamed that they can't even clean up after me properly!

For Moyie that feels that his club would have to be independent to continue...this makes me sad. It is not the intent of anything we are drafting to squeeze or penalize any portion of our membership. Of the 70 member clubs in the Province many are small clubs. That is why the plan is in draft form and looking for feedback. If the smaller clubs feel that the fee structure in the draft plan is not correct than they need to make themselves heard. Not just plan to leave without providing input or changes they would like to see.

Well Donegal, I totally agree with nearly everything you said in this previous post but I just can't let this part go un-answered.

Our club did that......personally with you, when you went around the province explaining the draft proposal. I had to go to a Cranbrook club meeting to talk to you, since you didn't have time to meet with our club, but I'm OK with that. All we ever asked for was to make the Provincial Pass optional as an add on to a regular club membership. Let sledders make their own choice based on how and where they ride. Our concern fell on deaf ears. Even with that, we'd still be in the BCSF waiting to see what happens with the PMP if we hadn't been blind sided with the $1700 assessment you failed to mention in that meeting. There was no mention of that till the AGM we couldn't afford to send someone to, so we had zero opportunity to respond to it. We can send the BCSF $1700 or we can keep our parking lot plowed for the winter. We can't afford to do both. We're not hypocrytical enough to refuse to pay the assessment like some clubs, but still remain in the BCSF. Whether it was the intent of the BCSF or not, we were really left with no other option but to leave.

I have belonged to the local club for the last 20 years, used to be one of the members went sledding with me 10 years ago, since then nothing.
It looks like they are only interested in building cabin which very few use.
I belonged to a club in Mackenzie 40 years ago, there was a family event at least once a month.
Here they talk about getting seniors grants to get more money, as far as I can see I am the only senior at the club meeting.
There is only one meeting per year.
Exactly what will $250 per year buy me!!!
There it is me, me, me, me????
The only riding here is on crown land, what local land use preservation is there here?

Would you be sad if wildsight or another group came into your backyard and closed it to motorized use? Don't think it could not happen, Supporting your club helps to keep areas open.
Want more activities ? organize one. This is the problem with a lot of people these days, they feel because they paid a membership someone else should or will do the work.

With all due respect to Trish, she completely missed the actual concerns of smaller clubs as stated by me previously in this thread. A little disappointing, but our club's out of the BCSF now so I won't dwell on it.

Nope I didn't. I am a smaller club.. waiting for the PMP draft.. we will vote no if there isn't an option for riders to simply buy a local membership. Many of our riders simply ride in this area. Our membership is 75 dollars which is a squeeze to get our membership up. If we can't make it work for everyone here, we'll vote no. At the spring meeting I put forth the fact that we need not only a pmp as an option we need to make sure membership is affordable and available for all. Secondly.. We are a smaller club and had to really dig in to pay the 1700 dollars.. We did it. Why, because we want to be part of the solution to gaining more provincial numbers. I posted facts .. and what and where the process was at... I'll follow up with an update soon. I'm hopeful we can figure out our province.. whether it's with the PMP or not.. all I know as that we need to do something... I'm so head down Kiester up with Caribou right now I am not involved in the PMP in any way shape or form other than a club president.

This is about you and your club. What have YOU done? You are retired, probably some time to kill right? Quit whining about what do You get.
I volunteer as much as I can for my club when I am not running 2 businesses, a ranch and trying to sled myself.

Now that I agree with. An optional PMP is the only change to the draft plan we ever asked for. It was never about hiding our riding from outsiders as you stated in your article.

This I took exception to:

"Some smaller clubs simply do not want out-of-towners in their honey holes, and fear the PMP will promote tourism in their area."

Not about me and my club, you don't seem to get it, I do not want to SUBSIDIZE your club and YOUR GROOMED trails.
Your original post said what do I get for my $250? I answered the question. I can't read minds.... say what you mean.

Don't want to subsidize my club? That's fine Don't, we are doing ok thanks to those who pay the trail fees and join as members(79 this year).

That totally wasn't directed at you by any means. There are clubs that only want locals, they aren't as small as us.. but it's a tight go. They were clubs I know intimately from ABCSnow. It was a tough balance. When I was scheduled to write about their club for SnoRiders. No outsiders allowed was their platform, which made things very difficult. There were at least 5 clubs with this point of view.

Trish if it's time to get numbers maybe it's time to get a sledders registry setup?

Just a website that recorded who you are and where you ride, something that can be used when lobbying against the Caribou Closures.......

I don't believe that even if we had 50% of the sledders as members of the BCSF we could stop the caribou closures. Having spent years fighting that fight here for the Cranbrook club I think the only way to have any effect is by having more money than the greenies to hire scientists and whatever other specialists will testify to what spin you want on the facts.
Personal experience shows they will not accept the results from studies that refute their claims about our impact.( Yes those studies exist ).
When it comes to using member numbers as part of lobbying keep in mind that groups like Wildsight go into these meetings with petitions signed by hundreds of thousands. Government doesn't even care that most of them are not even from Canada never mind the areas affected.
Just my thoughts and observations.

Speaking of WildSight in the Kootenays, they are deep into the schools and the young children. They do field trips, special talks, and presentations. For the field trips they do with the students there is a waiver that the parents must sign and one of the conditions in the fine print states when it is signed reads "you support the projects and endeavours of WildSight."

All these "supporters" who don't really read the fine print or maybe read it and are okay with it are WildSight's numbers. How do you fight that kind of BS?

When I was young I don't remember what group it was but they came to school and had a presentation about about avalanche safety and sled safety in general. Showed some awesome videos.
Everyone went home and bugged their parents for sleds. Lol
