I guess a need new avy pack mine went off cant get it filled so what is most popular pack dont want a heavy one cause im old . Small and light be best . Just wondering what most people use thanks .

ran a bca float 22 last year and loved it, this year stuck between the bca float vest or the high mark vest. i love the bca because you can get them refilled almost anywhere but the highmark is a little lighter and offers much more protection and not once did i need ot get it refilled. looking at a vest this year too to distribute the weight much more evenly. will see when the sled show is up and try them all on.

ABS bags use nitrogen and they have to be sent back to ABS to be refilled (dealers do that end of the process). Saying that, there are dealers that have refilled canisters on the shelf that you exchange for your spent canister.

You need to find an ABS dealer in your area, take in the handle and the spent canister and for $40-50 they will exchange. I'm betting, if you take the bag in they will even change it out for you.

Ive been to all the sled shops they say they vant fill it i just droped it off at a ski shop he s going to try to fill it i hopefully it will work.

that’s an older pack for sure, venture to say around early 2000’s you picked that up.

it does not take ABS canisters, pretty sure it was compressed argon. The manufacturer didn’t like the idea of air as it loose its ‘punch’ at elevation for inflation. Filling the cartridge with air will most likely still work.

Rocky Mountain extreme is the make and they are also the manufacture. They were made in BC, vague memory serves me I thought it was Prince George or something.

personnally, I would upgrade to something that is still in production, just helps for parts and canisters. Myself I run a 12yr ABS bag, it’s old but still functions and I can still get refills for it.

if your looking for a recommendation, ABS still gets my vote. Not only has my bag lasted an extremely long time I still feel there the best on the market, have been in this game longer than anyone, and have the stats to prove it.

RMX (Rocky Mountain Xtreme) was the name of company that was the main western Canadian dealer of ABS (maybe the distributor...?) Fella named Keith Wilson, farmer from the Drumheller area. He started marketing his own knock off of the ABS system mid to late 2000’s. Single bag, different trigger system, goofy looking backpack system. They were a cheap knock off.....

I've had ABS and Snowpulse (my current bag). If I was buying a new one I would go with the Jetforce for a few reasons. There is no cylinder that needs to be refilled if you deploy it, either through necessity or by accident. If you want to travel with the bag there are no restrictions because there is no compressed cylinder. The bag uses a battery powered fan to charge the bag with the air around you then 3 minutes later it deflates using the same fan in reverse. If you happen to be buried, when the bag deflates it gives you some space to enable movement and breathing. The battery if fully charged is supposed to be good for 4 inflation cycles.

i just picked up an arva 15 reactor vest that i'll be using tomorrow for the first time. i had a bca float 15 which i liked but once i tried on a buddy's vest, i knew vests were the way to go. i was originally looking at dakine and mammut but they've discontinued their avy packs as far as i could tell. i went with arva because i like that it has the highest pressure (argon) which means most forceful opening out of all the companies and a very lightweight system.

My ABS pack is 2005 and canister is still available,the fellow that we purchased 11 packs from was from Drumheller and the following year he had them labeled Rocky Mountain Extreme they were a ABS.
