My wife and I saw this commercial (and other similar ones) and it sparked an "avalanche" discussion between the two of us..... I am curious what the people here think, with with more experience in the mountains or possibly AST1/2 courses, is there any avalanche danger for anyone on that rink? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw8C3b_Vj2k

Basing it only on what you can see in the commercial... is it safe or no? My wife said "I'd never want to skate there... because OMG AVALANCHE" whereas I thought it looked far enough away in the center of a field or lake, that an avalanche couldn't reach... (and possibly that they wouldn't build a rink in a danger zone).

Opinions ?

Look to be pretty clear of any run outs. Might be a minor risk of one coming down and breaking the ice if there is enough loaded snow but unlikely.

I was under the same impression..... that it wouldn't travel too far from the bottom across flat "land"..... I am happy to see I'm not crazy at least. With all the reports of avalanches.... and recent tragedies... I will never get her to Skidoo anywhere near a mountain :(

I have spent alot of time in the alpine either sledding or backpacking such as the Columbia ice fields and the coastal range of the Pemberton ice fields and if you have never been it can be very deceiving the grandeur of these mountain's. Even though they appear to be close on the video, i'm willing to say they are atleast a mile away. I'ed say there is a much higher chance of being stuck there cause the chopper can't fly because of an unexpected storm then an avy happening on to the rink. No chance imo.

"SKI-DOO" is a BRAND, please relate to sledding as sledding or snowmobiling.
Otherwise we might just all say i'm going Artic catting, Polarising and Yamahaing.....

Call it whatever you like.... I'll do the same..... Please use a capital *I* when typing "I'm"..... i is just a letter.... I mean... if we're going to be pedantic... it goes both ways.

hahahaha....like that will ever happen. it's a part of the vernacular, when I was a kid everyone went skidooing....whether you rode cat, deere, moto-ski, merc, johnson, evinrude, scorpion, etc....etc....etc.....

I love it when you see ads that say "1988 Arctic Cat skidoo for sale....."

But we all say {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252
{\fonttbl\f0\fnil\fcharset0 HelveticaNeue;}
{\colortbl;\red255\green255\blue255;\red34\green34\blue34;\red255\green255\blue255;}
\deftab720
\pard\pardeftab720\qc\partightenfactor0

\f0\fs26 \cf2 \cb3 \expnd0\expndtw0\kerning0
\outl0\strokewidth0 \strokec2 } when sledding

Maybe YOU say all that when you go sledding, but I've never heard anyone else say anything remotely close to all that. ;)
