That was the cover page of the presentation Mr. Peel from ILMB gave us when he told us the closures were going ahead, that our deal was with MoE and he was ILMB, no deal. Said it was the only way he could make other gov. depts. laugh when it came to snowmobilers and mtn. caribou. We told him it`s wasn`t funny at all.
With that image of the sledder riding on the back of the Caribou being produced by an employee of government...well it just shows you what we are up against. It is disgusting. Is this example of bias also going to be provided to the Premier?

As a side note, I just received a letter from an Environment Canada Species at Risk Biologist. She is requesting access to my 80-acre parcel in Rock Creek so she can monitor the population of Lewis’s Woodpecker. I will be emailing her very shortly with the links to this thread…and not so politely inform her that her colleagues recommendations have consequences…no access to my property.:realmad:

Hopefully all the guys that are chiming in saying they are sending off their letters to the Revy club are doing it. Last time Kathy put out a call for help for the Avalanche Centre for donations after the Turbo avy a hundred people or better said they were in, sending a cheque right now. As it turned out I think only 13 people sent money. Sorry boys it had to be said......

We had 11 e-mailed to the office on Fri. hopefully that many again went into the mail.
If any of you can link this to your clubs websites or post it on any other sites you visit it would be greatly appreciated. A lot of the clubs and organizations we met last wk. at the ISC have contacted the office for the link for their sites.

Thanks, Kathy.

Just finished forwarding this to the Cranbrook and Moyie clubs member lists and I'll be sending mine out as soon as I can get to a scanner. Should be able to get some more this week when the rest of the crews are here.

Wouldn't be surprised if we're next for more closures. Only 15 Caribou left and they wouldn't sign our SMA. Of course it appears they're not worth the paper they're printed on anyway. :realmad:

Thanks guys, what has happened to us is what we fully expect will continue to happen to all areas in the province with Mtn. Caribou. That is why we asked for help at the ISC. We had produced and then signed the SMA and designed the reporting form, we negotiated for riding areas for 4 yrs. A yr. and a half later they come back with more closures. Another 2 yrs. of negotiating and then we get blind sided.
I think this proves those SMA`s are worthless.

Through meetings and the presentation at the ISC we were offered help to fight this and we are taking it. The first part of the process is your signed letters of support.

Have you heard about this one. Gov. is planning a wolf cull to save Mtn. Caribou. There are now 23 groups that have stepped forward to stop it.

— arguing human activities such as the logging of old-growth forests and snowmobiling are the main causes of mountain caribou population decline.
“These herds are small because they have lost habitat on a massive scale,” the letter stated. “Even if we could kill all the predators, these herds could still be wiped out by incidents such as automobile accidents, avalanches, stress from snowmobiles and fluctuating winter conditions unfavourable to their survival.”

and this is from their letter to Gov.
2. Stop snowmobiling and heli-skiing in historical mountain caribou wintering areas. The current snowmobile closures are too few and too small, and they are not being enforced.

Has anyone filed a complaint about the treatment of our group? It is obvious from the image used in the presentation that they are not impartial and have a definite bias against the snowmobile community.
It may not help negotiations but negotiations and contracts don't seem to matter.

They've actually been doing it down our way quietly for the last 2 years. They're paying trappers to target wolves. As for the rest of it.....what a load of crap. Trouble is when the enviro loonies out right lie about what caused the Caribou decline people actually listen. I don't know how we fight that. :realmad:

They need to cull the wolves, then sit back and evaluate the populations if they increase in numbers then continue maintaining the wolf population. If the herds are declining its not because of more sledding areas opening up, since that hasn't happened in a long time. Can't these people see they are running out of facts that sledding is the direct result of the caribou population?:realmad:

In my head
....and some of the most recent research from several conservation groups (that support responsible hunting, not the enviro types) have shown that it's not really the wolves either. Biggest factor seems to be climate change.
