Seems like everyone and their brother around here has one of those Chevs and there is a reason for that. I'm not a GM guy by any means but those trucks just plain work. The 350 is a pretty standard choice, not the most powerful or fuel efficient but they are pretty reliable. That and the aftermarket support for them is huge. A buddy of mine had a 94' reg cab 2x4 with 350,000kms with nothing but basic maintenence and it still ran great. Another friend of mine had a nicely built 95' ext cab shortbox 4x4 with the 350 until he blew it up and put in a mildly built vortec 350. It was a good truck but the fuel economy in it sucked big time. But being lifted on 35s will do that. Expect around 15mpg on average, depends on how you drive it and such.

The key to those trucks is regularly scheduled maintenance and little to no modifications and they are great trucks. As soon as you lift them and put big tires on or modify the engine etc you start having issues. The 350 is a great engine and GM really had it running as well as it ever could during those years, it had average mileage and decent power, you could use it as a daily driver or haul moderate loads easily. The rest of the truck without the added stress of modifications lasted almost as well as the engine, if I remember right they were a little hard on brakes and front ends if driven on gravel roads or off road regularly and had poor factory paint in silver. I wouldn't have a problem owning one again.

You should look for a 90-95 toyota 4x4 with a 22re engine . good on gas cheap to fix easy to work on and reliable . doughters truck had 700,000 k before i put a head gasket in it drove for 2 more years and then sold the truck to pay for more quads . Hey when you get to the Island pm me I have a nice mountain max sled for sale .

I had a 90 toyota with the 3.0 V6. I put that truck EVERYWHERE. It had 4" lift and 33's, and the only time it got stuck was when the airbox sucked in tons of water. Pulled the plugs, turned it over to drain the cylinders, put it back together and it got us out of the woods. I would vote for the 22re, it's even more bulletproof, as the 3.0 was prone to head gasket issues. Only sold my yota as I wanted a 3/4 ton to haul two sleds on. Good trucks, I still see mine driving around every once in a while.

Alot if friends have these models of trucks. The 350 is a pretty much bulletproof motor, that is with regular maintenence as said before. As for lifting these trucks the one buddy of mine had 11 inchs of lift on his and has had no problems. another guy had bagged the absolute chit out of his and it still runs pretty good, ( 2 tranny's later) lol. another one only has 125000 on it and he treats it good. these are good trucks and they are a very popular 1st vehicle. At 250,000 you might encounter problems but probably not if you treat it right. buying one with less than 200,000kms would be a good purchase in my opinion.

I have a 97, it my first vehicle and has 340 000 km. My dad had owned it since new. Regular maintanence is they key like others said. This winter the rear end went, but this half tone has seen it's fair share of pulling. Doesn't burn oil yet. Second pic is of the drive shaft after performing in the school parking lot last day of school. The aluminum was coroded an very weak... Got it fixed and love this thing :)
