anyone running an egt guage

I was wondering if any one is running an egt and what is too hot , I pulling some good hills today and was hitting around 1150 farenhiet , to hot or to cold ??????,:d:d

that sounds ok. however all machines are differant. for your machine that could be high.

need to go for a good pull look at the plugs/piston wash then look at the guage.

I was thinkig of pulling the plugs today but I was just haveing to much fun . Ohh yeah I dont know if this help Im running a 2004 polaris 700.Thanks for the info

Temps sound pretty good. Check the plugs like Maxwell said. Be careful at lower elevations because temps can vary a lot. My M1000 runs about 1200 max at higher altitude but will easily go over 1250 at low elevation if i am not careful.

I run a 2001 Polaris 800 RMK - Ported/Polished/Piped and Race fuel.
In my case it runs best at 1250. You can really feel the difference in a pull at 1150 and 1250.

It takes a bit of playing around to find the perfect temp - plugs will tell the story.

Strictly going by the #'s - 1150 is just shy of perfect, usually you want to be closer to 1200.

That being said......Your temps mean nothing unless you look at the plugs and correlate the plug reading to the temp that was on the gauge. Otherwise that # "1150" means nothing. Read this - DigatronTech to learn how to correlate the EGT readings to the plugs. Probe placement, fuel type, air venting on the pipe, etc, all contribute to how hot or cold the probe reads. On your sled, 1150 could be meltdown temp. You'll never know unless you look at the plugs.

If your sled is stock jetting and you just now put on a gauge, then that's probably where it ran all the time.

My one sled runs 1250+ on a long pull and the plugs are perfect, I have hit as as high as 1320 :eek: which was getting a little too hot (most aluminum alloys start to melt at 1340) but I routinely hit 1280-1290. Plugs start showing some white right around 1300. My other sled likes it cooler and 1240 is about where the plugs start getting a grey/white tint, so the alarm is set at 1230 for safety.

I just had a quik look at my plugs they are tan and there is no washing on the pistons , just black carbon , I was told to check them after a long pull to get a proper sign . thanks for all the info guys .

Do your long pull and then hit the kill switch after you turn out (let it freeride to the bottom) so you can get an accurate reading.
