Anyone know what those things are called that cover the ports in the track?

Anyone know what those little riveted flaps are called that close off the ports on the track. Can't afford a new non ported track just yet. I think they make them and ship them out of Valemount Colorado.

doesnt that add more rotating mass? what is wrong with a ported track? when it is spinning at 80 MPH going up a hill I dont think you loose any floatation from being ported lol.....

This year ported tracks are out of fashion. Someone apparently did some testing last year that showed you can climb a couple of feet higher with a non-ported track.

I have used the closures for a complete winter and what a difference....

BTW, the peeps at Mountain Magic Sports were awesome to deal with; polite, shipping was excellent, and they even wanted to send extras to replace some broken ones.

Doo hasn't had ported tracks on two model years now. The Doo porting was an overkill (haha) Minor porting does reduce rotating mass and has some other benefits for climbing. Taking away any floatation at low speeds is counter productive. The Doo track was a cheese grader.

Dano - why not look for a take off track. Many people last year swapped out their non-ported tracks for 2.5" camo extreme or larger tracks. A take off track can usually be found for $400-500 and then you aren't dealing with those goofy plastic things.

Sorry, they are a nice idea, but goofy.

I bet they would come off like the old plastic paddles did the the late 80's.......and with a track speed of 70-80 MPH well climbing.....I bet all yamies would loose them before the top of a chute! lol as for snow in my rear skid......it doesnt have time to come in the ports on a Yamy......must be a doo thing! lol sorry had to say it! lol

it's okay, you're allowed to say it......I found the hardest place on the port closures was the loading ramp.

I can tell you from a couple of years experience with the ported tracks, that you are better off without the ports because when you are boondocking and a tree branch decides to poke up through the port, it sticks up through the skid, and it stays still while your skid moves forward and it will bend the rods that run crosswise between the rails, and even if you are lucky enough that they don't break and allow your rails to open up so that the track comes up in between them your day is done, because when they turn into a big "U" the rails get sucked in closer together.

Yup ported tracks are gay. Tested identical sleds, indentical riders, identical conditions, non ported always went higher and "padded" the snow for better traction. More durability as well.......i don't think you will see many ported tracks any longer.

I'm surprised that theres so much concern on tracks with some porting, I have ran both in pretty extreme testing and the difference is negligible, unless of youve done some serious custom cheese grater work, mild porting ie : 06 doo factory, is certainly not an issue to be concerned about, the most advantage Ive seen is the upgrade to a better track than stock with deeper lugs ie camo extreme 2.5, I think the big improvements seen are in changing to a much better track not just the difference in mild porting. I do lots of boondocking, early season & spring riding with sticks & rocks and the godforsaken alder bushes sometimes and havent had any issue with sticks in the porting holes before I upgraded tracks. Dont sweat the small stuff unless everything else on your sled is working optimal...........

ya but with a doo you dont have to carry a gas winch and 1200feet of rope to get unstuck.LOL had to add it after that doo comment

only the bigger problem with the ported tracks are that they are week and soon you will be towing your sled out on the rails 40km and hatint lifs as you freeze your butt off just like mine did and a fue good videos on youtube.

you got it all wrong.....lol.....that is what I use to "RECOVER" brokin sleds.....like 800's in all makes......lol.....but I do have to admit if I carried the winch all the time it would be easier to get the tank out.....you might have something there! lol
