this tire is off my truck that I mostly use for hauling my Rv trailer. I got a flat about three years ago and had it replace with this wrangler tire (which is newer than the other three wrangler tires)None of the tires has any dry rot, the rubber is at 15/32" and new it is 18/32" so not a lot of miles on it. the truck is keep in a garage when not in use and in the garage all winter after hunting season and until may long for camping. I took it to fountain tire( good year dealer) and I`ll post up later what they had to say.So my question is what cause my tire to crack like this?

No off road use, just back roads and then parked with trailer.

sidewall impact break, likely from hitting curb while backing up if it was a steer, or rashed going around a corner. The damage happened while the tire was rolling.

2 key indicators are the continuing scratches beside the impact, and the main damage being at the widest flex point of the sidewall.

My duratrac tire did the same thing.
Rear tire. It looked like a cut.
Mine happened on a gravel road

did you happen to get close to, or clip a log or sharp rock? The thing with this type of failure is the impact can happen some time before the tire goes flat or blows out. The damage is done to the sidewall cords, then they flex while you travel, after awhile they end up breaking.

Looks to me like impact damage while under inflated. The bead of the tire in that spot is pushed farther onto the rim below the damaged area, and the rim has some scuffing there as well

The damage to the rim was from the flat that was on there before this tire. I had to drive about 20 kms on the flat. My tires are always at the correct pressure. The bead is on correctly, I'll get another picture and post it

The scratches are from me cleaning the tire up with a brush. I wanted to make sure the cracks were easy to see.

I have to agree with 007. We were using these on all of our work trucks and had nothing but issues. I literally had three impact flats on three out of the four tires in one week. ( on gravel roads ) Also had them on my diesel and the front tires both separated on the sides. ( extra weight ? ) Never had anything happen like depicted in you pics but I would guess it’s due to these poorly made tires. Good luck.

I believe Goodyear changed something over the last couple years on build quality with the Duratracs.
See a lot of companies that swore by them and even others move away due to problems.

Would like to see some REAL tire guy post something up here also. my 2 cents also says curb or blunt hit on the sidewall, not wear cracks at all. Any aggressive AT or MT tire is gonna be ****. IMO. cheapest to the most pricey they all have down falls. I used to run them fawkn rubbers on my diesel. When they first came out with the Wranglers with Kevlar. Oooooo Kevlar must be a good tire. Nope...IMO. All MT tires blow and id say a dura is a MT not a AT tire. There all hockey pucks in winter and loud, wear super fast in summer with hard sidewalls and they all cup. again IMO and probably anyone here that runs bigger then 35" tires. Im running 345/45/24 Fuel Grippers right now and they same as cheap comforser tires. But i will never buy a BFG tire again...

Well I can say that I have not hit any curbs or potholes hard enough to cause damage like this to this tire. The tire was on the front drivers side until I rotated them to the back. The Goodyear sales rep said that I must have hit a pothole. You would think that If I hit something hard enough to cause it to crack there would be some kind of mark other than a clean crack. I said before I don`t drive this truck in the winter. So my conclusion is the tire cracked on its own over the winter while in the garage. Maybe thats hard to believe for some, maybe it was bad rubber. I agree with a few on here that these tires are garbage. If I asked who 'sells tires on here' would I get a real tire guy`s response, lol
