Entered my first snow drag race on the weekend, just for fun because it was close to home, and it was a good time, was a decent turn out despite the weather, and pretty well put on, my 5y/o daughter was looking forward to it all week and she had a blast, anyways, just a question on classes, is it normal to have a Nytro MTX 600 turbo running in the stock 800 class?

Hmmm, through all our years racing, it should be running in the 800 mod or heavy improved class...a stock 600 4 stroke usually would run in the 500 to 600 class. Lots of variables to consider... They try to keep the hp fairly even when running 4 strokes into 2 stroke classes... I thought stock nytros were 1049cc engines? They run in the 800 class... The phazers mtx were 499cc... Never heard of a 600 nytro??

Ya I've never heard of an MTX 600 either but that's what he claimed and I wasn't gonna be the guy to call him out on it over a just for fun kinda event, I didn't see how you could have a mod 600 in any stock class, ya it was 800 stock class but a boosted 600 is gonna smoke a stock sled every time. Just seemed kinda dumb, anyway my sister ended up lining up against it twice on her 2010 xp 800 and obviously and got beat by a mile both times.

Strange rules but that turbo should not be in a stock class. Most rules wont allow a can in stock class.

The rules and classes for SnoMoDays can be found here. I'm not sure where they were adapted from but at least it's something you can compare to.

The stock unturboed nytro is a 1049 but is only 130hp which does make it a 600cc class sled. The apex was a 1000 cc at 150-155 hp which put it into the 800cc class. Once Turboed you should run open mod classes

Back in the winters of 1997 and 1998 I went to a few snow drags with my boss who owned Valley Performance Cat Dealer in Drayton. They had had a demo 97 440ZR and 98 Zr600. I raced both machines and took 1st Place in stock and stock improved 440 in Rocky Mountain House. 2nd overall in stock 600 in Wetaskiwin and I only rode one day of the two day event. Those were some fun weekends. I can still remember looking back at a guy riding a formula 3 600, wasn't even close. The mechanic they had taught me a lot about clutching a sled properly. He ended up winning the western Canada grass drag final on an improved 600 ZRT in 98 or 99. The Demo sleds were a great sales tool, I ended up buying a 97 Powder Special in the Spring.
