Do they have any clue how many guys/girls just lost their jobs cause of this crap? I just love how a healthy guy that takes very good care of himself gets treated like a criminal because I have diabetes, im gonna do everything in my power to raise hell on this so any other guys or girls that have input would be a great help

Really....Thats not right. If you were a criminal thats is understandable. You used to be not able to fly a plane without having 20/20 vision, thats not the case anymore. Now I'm not Diabetic but I have friends who are. I'm quite sure that you know how to manage yourself. You didn't choose this condition and you shouldn't be put out because of it. I wish you luck in your fight because its truly Bullsh1t.

I appreciate that its not just me thats gonna be put out by this I cant even imagine how many people are gonna get screwed by this im lucky enough to only have to hit the border once in a blue moon to grab a piece of equipment but there's tons of people that rely on crossing borders to feed their families

Definitely plead your case to anyone who will listen. If you see a change coming down the pipe that you disagree with, and do nothing about it, then it will be implemented. You can be heard. Send letters to individuals, not groups. They will be forced to discuss it at the very least. This advice I heard from a well respected man at a meeting last week about a different topic, but it stuck with me. I actually used this advice on a work related topic about implementing a new procedure that makes no sense and it worked! I hope this helped a little!

Are there no diabetic truck drivers in the US? Or is it only Canadian truckers that pose a risk to American motorists. This must have been done at the request of American authorities, probably a requirement of some trade agreement. Wonder if every country has to do this now. seems stupid.

First I heard of this but will find out some more. Lots and lots of drivers deal with diabetes and all we need is more restrictions to chip away at a already depleting driver shortage.

Is it the US doing this? Seems stupid. I tried looking up some info on line. A lot of non informing information.

Is it type 1 or 2 or both their after? Type 2 is on the rise.

That crosses the line of discrimination. What about people driving that are epileptic? Or have heart conditions?
They have too many stupid people locked into too many little rooms coming up with too many stupid ideas.

It's funny tho. I suffered the symptoms of type 2 for 4 months. Never thought much other then one of these nights I'll make it through the night without waking to pee. As for the extreme thrist, blamed the frequency of peeing. And the weight loss, well I was overweight so I liked the weight loss. But in the end saw a doctor. Learned I was type 2. Work wouldn't let me in the units or allowed to drive anything on site. (unit the site nurse was happy I wasn't a danger). I could still drive too and from work. Just not on site.
My argument was what changed? If anything I'm in better shape on the meds then I was for the past 4 months.

It's stupid how these rooms of people think their protecting everyone from each other.

If you're on your meds, and numbers are good, with no issues. What's there to worry about? You should be good to go.

This is proof society is getting stupider by the day.

I can see a requirement for regular testing to show you are controlling the diabetes but otherwise it is no different than someone with other disorders such as epilepsy or heart diseases.
edit: I guess I am a slow typer,see above

I agree with RXN should be somewhat discriminatory

That's why drivers need to get medicals so they can make sure things like diabetes are in check.

Seems odd that a license restriction would have any effect on another legal jurisdiction. It should be up to authorities of the other countries who is allowed to drive in their countries, not our provincial licensing bureaus.

That's what I was thinking. Although, I suppose it's possible that the US asked the provincial licensing bureaus to inform its drivers of the US regulation change. ...the regulation still seems kinda goofy though.

I read about this on LinkedIn. The US government has passed a bill which will begin gathering opinion and feedback from stakeholders prior to introducing new legislative requirements. Pretty sure this is the US department of Transportation initiating this not Canada however my understanding was that no legislation has yet been changed and they were just beginning a lengthy review process in an effort to not screw it up by knee jerking blanket legislation.
