I read about this on LinkedIn. The US government has passed a bill which will begin gathering opinion and feedback from stakeholders prior to introducing new legislative requirements. Pretty sure this is the US department of Transportation initiating this not Canada however my understanding was that no legislation has yet been changed and they were just beginning a lengthy review process in an effort to not screw it up by knee jerking blanket legislation.

The government not screwing something up? Seriously!!!!!!!!!!

Ok just to clear this up its NOT an alberta thing its a canada thing, they are sayin that the us has never allowed out of country drivers with diabetes to drive in their country which I call bullsh!t on that one cause ive gone down there 150 times with my liscence with a medical code on it and never had an issue but now with this "w code" I beleive they called it will turn me around at the border, I do a medical every year for my class one because im a type 1 diabetic and pass with flying colors when the guy that doesnt take care of himself and half blind and a dying drunk can cross and drive around no problem cause he doesnt have a labeled condition like I said im trying to get my hands on a scanner so I can post the letter for you guys

I appreciate that its not just me thats gonna be put out by this I cant even imagine how many people are gonna get screwed by this im lucky enough to only have to hit the border once in a blue moon to grab a piece of equipment but there's tons of people that rely on crossing borders to feed their families

ya it should work both ways if that's the case... i wonder if this had anything to do with the trucker who took out the skagit river bridge... anyhow wonder if the human rights tribunal can help you???? seems they take on lesser problems and rights

I never told the registries when I renewed my license. They never asked, I never told.
I've heard of others telling and not being able to re-new until they get a Doctors note and some other crap first.

We as class 1 drivers sh$t on again! Do you know how many seniors with the $300,000 plus motorhomes pulling the $70,000 SUV cross the border? I bet most have a diabetes issue!

Just so you are informed that is criminal offence and you can get yourself in deep kaka if you were ever in an accident. You must disclose all medical info, I went through the same thing when I was first diagnosed as they never asked about medical conditions and I never thought anything of it. When I went to renew something g came up about medical conditions and I mentioned I was type 1 for the past couple of years, was told that if something ever happened I could have been facing charges and denial of insurance. Best look into it to make sure you aren't putting yourself in a sticky situation.

It's been this way for years, just not heavily enforced. I know guys who have been turned around at the border for a unpaid parking ticket.
I had a ticket in NY for a expired HUT, the judge in that jurisdiction threatened to have my license pulled if I didn't pay it, I didn't even own the truck!!

Think about what may happen to you if you got into a major accident in the states and someone lost their life, where is the finger going to be pointed at first.
If drivers do not disclose the medical info to their carriers than they may run a risk of being unemployed.
Just saying.
