I like the idea of jails being in the remote far north.........the arguement has always been that visitation is a basic prisoner's right. I think that would seriously deter criminals if time was 'hard time' where you lose the right to have family and friends visit. Would cut down on a lot of the drug problems in jails too if visitors are not there that takes care of one entry point for narcotics.

THAT right there is the problem...... far as I'm concerned once convicted all "rights" are waived until the sentance is served......

I posted about this in another thread somewhere...have to see if I can find it

Here it is....

Re: Edm Man confronts criminal and almost dies...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are places in the world where people are forced to commit criminal acts in order to survive day to day life.....THIS IS CANADA.... we have one of the most complex over funded social welfare systems in the world THERE IS NO EXCUSE. few people should ever want for the basics of life (yes I know some fall thru the cracks but many are there of their own devices)

Based on our social structure our Justice system should be one of the most intolerant. the punishment should deter future criminal activity...Problem is most criminals never do receive incarceration and those who do take the opportunity to network with other criminals and hone thier skills.

Everyone is all hung up on the civil rights of the convicts....far as I'm concerned for the duration of their sentance they have forfitted those rights and liberties... If you want the same rights and liberties as the rest of us OBEY THE LAW, quite simple actually.

We have tens of thousands of able bodied criminals who's food, clothing and shelter is paid for by our tax dollars, I think it's only fair we should get some bennifit from those dollars. There is any number of public services which could be taken care of..... oh but what about the ones who pose a danger to society you ask????????? what do we do with agressive animals????? BINGO

I would take great pride in living in a country that does not take chit from anyone.........

I as well lost a sister at the age of 27 years (murdered) To top it all off her supposed boyfriend that beat her basically to death ...got off...completly unbeileavable with all of the evidence against him. However....older brother found him...rang door bell...knocked him down and went to town on hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees etc. with ball pein hammer taped to a peice of PVC plumbers tube and told him, " everytime you go to the bathroom motherf__ker.... someone will be pushin you in there, and wiping your sorry AZZ everytime...and everytime I want you to think of my sister....killin you is too easy...have a nice life!" but...in our case justice was served!

I won't give an opinion on this but...

Not sure I'd publicize it....................

Just sayin

Outsourcing our prison system to countries like Thailand or Mexico would be my choice. Be cheaper for the tax payers too. Then you would see a drop in the crime rate. JMO

Half of the criminals locked up have it better in the can than they do being free. Three meals a day and cable TV. What a joke.

Hey Bogger....I appreciate you saying what you did....sincerly I do and I thought about it and there is nothing anyone can do now as my brother has passed on but reading some of the posts by others... triggered me into writing about what happened and it is a way of her not dying in vain...and that is also part of the problem...is that there are many more people out there that have had injustices such as ours dealt to them and we live our days in constant memory wondering at every occasion how things would be if she were here or how she never had the chance for her to enjoy her son and grandson....that was taken away so you know....if people sharing stories or events such as ours opens the ears and eyes of even one politician that can make a change then its all worth it. It may seem over the top and I thougth about even removing it but it is reality and no one should ever have to go through what we did. Some people think and make comments about what we need to do to improve and say, Capital punishment is too harsh or whatever" The reality is ....that this happens everyday and poeple walk....I am not proud of what happened and am not looking for sympathy....I wanted to share what happened to us....and had the system not failed then people would not have to take the law into their own hands.....that was my point....its a double tradgedy that should not have happened in the first place. If people think its too offensive....I can edit it out if need be.

I'm sorry to hear of you brothers passing...incriminating him was more what I was getting at by the whole "not sure if I'd publisize it thing" Not sure I can say I wouldn't at the very least be tempted to do the same....

Your right unfortunately these tradgeties are all around us.

Don't edit it out. I've been saying for years people are going to start doing their own justice because the Canadian justice system has failed them. I bet there are way more stories like this one out there that we haven't heard about.

This is great, I understand everyone's opinion. We(Canadians) for the most part, want harsher punishment. Now with that being said, where do you draw the line. Do you have harsher for anything that involves someone else, like murder, rape, theft. Someone mentioned speeding, now that's a difficult one, because if you were just over the speed limit, bang, speeding ticket, you lose your foot. That seems harsh. But people have died from others speeding, & causing accidents. I think that would be time when a harsher penalty would be deserving. I think with traffic violations it's a lot more difficult to pick a certain person. Some say oh he was speeding, which caused the accident, and that person says well if you wouldn't of backed into me everything would be okay. So I think maybe just the drunk driving would be the one to go after. It is absolutely amazing at how many of us have lost a loved one due to a drunk driver.
