Advice - US West coast ride to California

Was hoping to get a little advice. I am planning a trip on my bike along the west coast - hauling my bike till the snow stops, unloading and riding for a week. In January - where should it be good to unload and ride from?

Could I ride from Seattle all the way down without fear of winter riding in the northern states? Any advice from those who have ridden would be appreciated. Has anyone done this and where is a good location to stage from and securely leave the truck/trailer.

On the pacific coast highway it can get pretty damn cold along the coast line. It has been known to snow in Seattle.

Better take a big rain suit that will fit over your snow suit.It will be wet and cold this time of year.A bunch of us leave our bikes in yuma all winter and we won't go back down until early February cause it's cool down there right now and that's way further south than where you want to go.

OK - looks like that plan may not be the best then. Are there better areas to head for and if so any details would be appreciated - especially secure locations for dropping the truck/trailer.Thx

I would head south on the i15 until you hit the st George,Washington Utah area.There is a dealer there that's called Zion harley.I know they do rentals but I also think they have a secure storage compound that you can leave your truck and trailer at for cheap.Your only about 4 hours from vegas and as soon as you start dropping into the desert it should warm up pretty decent.From there you can go south west towards LA and San Diego or south to Phoenix Cave creek area.lots of good riding all over those areas with tons of attractions to stop and check out too.Do it once and you will be hooked.We have a group of four that are on our third year now.We haul everything down to yuma in no and leave it there until lend of march.We have flown down return for around 430 bucks most time so it isn't any more money then mountain sledding all the time either.Exchange rate not helping this year but it's still worth it IMHO.good luck and have fun.

I've done the entire coast, from van city to L.A. it's an amazing trip, best experienced in the summer. do the rental thing in the winter, and plan a long trip in the summer. There's simply to much to see and experience to drive by it in a truck. We went in Aug, when there was a heat wave throughout inland Canada /us, and we wore hoodies and leathers almost right to northern California. if you time it right you can see the whale migration, wine country in full swing, summer beach parties, surfing, etc.... I can go on and on, my advice is to wait.

Me and a buddy did this exact trip last April, there was still snow south of Salt Lake. Once we got down to St. George the weather got good and we unloaded and off we went. Vegas for some drag races, Hoover Dam, down to Phoenix, down to Mexico, Grand Canyon and back to St. George. It was a super awesome trip minus me cracking some pistons on my turboed Harley. Nothing some money wouldn't fix. But St. George V-twin treated me VERY well, great people!

I agree with the rest. It is too early. Unless you drive all the way down south and ride there then drive back. Just look at the 7 day forecast for the coast. It should give you an idea of what it will be like.

I trailer my bikes down to Laughlin Nevada. This time of year it can be a little cool out in the desert on Route 66. The winds can be blowing pretty good. I prefer to do it in Sept when it is above 40. The wife and I will be down there in a couple of months.
