Then why should the Indians get any compensation for anything under the surface ? You just defined the meaning of hypocrite.

How do you figure that i am a hypocrite. I said if you buy land you dont get the mineral rights. The people on the rez never bought the land they were told to live there in exchange for a giving up a larger area of land.

As a proud native, what do you see as the solution?
Being a proud Native doesnt mean i have a solution. And sadly i dont see one where most of us could agree on. The main thing with the protests is the way the Harper government pushed through bill c-45 blocking all opposition to it and with no consultation.

Why fight, unite? I have deep family roots in Canada, not as deep as some are concerned tho. As far as I'm concerned I'm a "native" of this land as well, maybe it's time we focused our attention on those despise the phrase "Merry Christmas".

agreed... I am tired of two tear system... racist works both ways. Until we have one law for one country including Quebec were always gonna flounder. Why does my Native neighbour work for the Government and on reserves pay no taxes... Being Native he doesn't pay a lick of taxes for his pay!!! WTF someone please explain this. I asked him if its his reserve he said no... he's not even from around here but said it's his Native rights that allow this. He makes about 100k per years... he went and shot a moose, deer and elk this year... I ask how and he said, "my native rights to sustenance" lol...sustenance... I thought that meant you were starving!!! lol... as he drives away in a lifted new ford diesel....

His kids go to the same schools and use the same health care... that's what we pay taxes for so why doesn't he? Is this all Natives? I don't know. Be proud of who you are if your good... that goes without saying for anyone. Don't get me wrong. He is a hell of a nice guy and has great morals and values... just trying to point out a few things I have seen first hand. Yes, I have also seen great poverty... I personally don't think the reserve system has helped anyone!!!!!

I am not racist. I'd reach out to help anyone that needed it. I am sorry if I sound racist. I am not! I am afraid for my childs future and the future of this country. I am afraid I may not have work tomorrow because a native person says he can do my job working on CROWN land and it's automatically his... I call and smell BS!

It may take a slightly different route, but it will be built unless all of a sudden fossil fuels become obsolete. Its as sure as there is night and day. not necessarily "right" but it will happen, and I would guess that people on both sides of this conversation will cash cheques from its construction.

very naive statement, and the type of statement many out here are drawing strength from.

It'll go through. Just wait tell the states start pushing hard for it. They need the jobs. Everyone has there price.

shows just how much you really understand this proposed pipeline. The States do NOT want it to go through, it will only cost them money.

but is not going threw BC :) too many people against it !!! and Harper is on his way out ! good f*%kin riddins...

If they want it up go through be it will. I know a few people that didn't want lines crossing their property thousands in court etc only to wake up one day to the crew digging the line. Fossil fuels are a necessity of life nowadays and will be for the foreseeable future. They are needed to survive. As a result you can't stop it if they want to push it through.

I don't understand why they don't just Bluetooth the oil to the port. Way easier :)

Let them separate then. Don't let the door hit them in the ass out the way out either. I'm tired of Quebec always whining and crying about how bad they have it and how we suppress their "unique culture". We all know damn well within a year they'd come back crying because they can't figure out how to live on their own instead of equalization payments.

sorry didn't mean to start another thred here.... I agree let then leave but move out! Quebec is as much part of Canada as any other province. Last thing I want is Alberta oil piped through there so they can claim it's theirs too... They already get to much in our tax dollars why give them the opportunity to hold our oil!

What makes you say that? It was part of Obamas state of the union address to get it going.
The Enbridge project is destined to ship oil overseas which drives up prices for Alberta crude. The US currently buys at a bargain price because there is nowhere else to ship it to. Therefor this project is a double negative for the US.

As it is proposed right now the net job gain for the good ole USofA is ZERO.

Too add to that the US announced with new technology (ie fracking in Texas) and opening up areas in the North they figure they can now be oil independent of even the Middle East! Is that the truth? I don't think so, but I am sure they'd like to save money and stop going to war in the middle east to protect "their national interest" oil! I say lets beat them to the punch with Enbridge before they start selling oil and we loose out cause we are too slow! If the first proposed route has so many problems re route it! Screw Vancouver's Mayor (who is he anyhow port belongs to Canada). Double tripple the kinder morgan pipe line for all i care!

I do however like the idea of refining oil here! Make more money, keep the jobs here and don't risk and oil spill you can't clean up. Refined oil is much easier to treat! Win win win! Mind you we still sell rough lumber and raw logs and loose those jobs. We are not that forward thinking so we loose!

Correct! The states does have the ability to be self-sufficient on oil. Isnt gonna be easy but they say they can be by 2020+.

Sure the reserves have increased with the new technology in the US but we have more than enough reserves to outwait them :)
