A couple of things I have noticed.

I believe that that guard does help in many areas, I was a non believer at first. My brothers 2012 had no black marks on the clutch faces, and if I remember correctly yah couldn't pull the foam off the primary side because it helped keep the snow dust off the clutch faces on the 2012.

Yep there is a downside to being older. The upside is I make intelligent posts.

My tool kit upgrade! Best 15 dollars spent!

What all do you store in that little tool bag IFSM8??? I copy catted your idea lol!!! Would like as well to have a few more tools in the sled, was just curious as to what you carry on your sled (not your person, just what you think you'd put in that little baggie)

Cheers and great find!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did testing and temp readings with guard/without, plus different amounts of shimming on the secondary. I stopped when I found what worked on my sled. Believe me, I tried to believe the guard might work, but not on mine, it was sooo hot! Now is good. Later I installed a few vents in the panel. In my opinion, BRP didn't fix anything--just put a bandaid on a greater problem. So there...

What were your temp readings??? What style or aggression of riding??? Aren't these new belts supposed to run better warmer??? Just asking, if I like your numbers i might just do the same to mine...

Cheers and nice job!!!!!!!!

:frusty:Wait a minute you guys!!!I started a thread on this cooler thingy ma dooey and everyone said dont touch it???*&^%#$$FD:dunno:

Would you rather have someone else botch their cover and end up getting recorded results because of it (Good OR Bad), or would you rather just jump into it yourself and end up spending money you didn't have to IF you waited for someone else to make the mistake (or ingenious discovery)??? I personally was gonna sit back and wait for someone else to do the research..... Dont got money to toss on a new cover if I screw it up...

Cheers!

I vented my 2012 Etec with JCCustom vents upper and lower on the left and right panels. I left the CVT totally as stock and put on 2200 kms with one belt.

I read where a lot of guys ran them without vents and had great belt service.

I am trying my 2013 XMX this year without vents and an unmodified CVT until something happens. Then I may put in vents but I won't change the CVT.

I went ventless last year and never had a problem with heat in the CVT, i could always touch them and that includes after some crazy long repetitive pulls in the spring time. 1500 km, one belt :) i replaced it at the end of the season just for cheap insurance

I have a 6" cresent wrench, stubby 8-14mm wrenches, Std & metric allen keys, Torx keys, side cutters and pliers for now. we will see as the season progresses. I usually end up with way more.

Didn't you get my "so there"? I did this last year for myself and didn't keep what I recorded. Sorry, but I never thought anyone else would WANT to hear about it cause of all the propaganda on the new guard(plus, I didn't want to get into a big debate over this. sigh...). I remember it was 25C cooler just by shimming out 2mm without touching the guard. Some machines were fine. Mine was not. After a long pull in deep powder it was scorching hot. First sign, while breaking the machine in was all the belt dust after a ride. Not acceptable to me. Now is very good.

So if it was that much cooler with proper xyz dimensions how much cooler would it have been if you ran the CVT cover?

It was cooler with it shimmed out 2mm WITH guard on. I only put holes into the guard to experiment with it later on, then put vents in the panels after that. I had bad issues with my 09 and shimmed that one 3mm before it worked well. I just applied same thinking to the 12. If yours isn't having a problem, don't fix it....
