New to the forum here... I did a search on changing out chain tensioner lube but found nothing, I just bought this sled used and have no manual for it. I would like to change out the tensioner lube but cant find the drain plug (if there is one) I would appreciate some help on this. Thanks  Twors

hi: Welcome to the site...... Sorry to inform you there is no drain plug on the older summit..... You must take the cover off the chain case and clean out and refill and readjust. Use synthetic chain case oil. The o ring around the chain case is re-useable, in most cases. Good luck and let us know how you make out...... P.s. It's a good idea to recheck the torque on the jackshaft nut and drive axle nut too..... Seen a few back off and cause a little damage;)

Yep, what Summitric said. Take out the 10mm bolts holding the chaincase cover in place. Put a bucket under the bellypan and drill a small hole in the bellypan underneath the chaincase if there isn't one there already, drain the oil and replace, adjust tension as required with the tensioner bolt located on the outside of the case.

Or you can push the fuel shut off to "off" and flip the sled on its side so that you don't spill the oil all over the place, take the cover off, make the adjustments and put the cover back on.

As an FYI, the case does not need to be split to make the adjustment to the tensioner, there is no lube required on it specfically, it is lubed by the chaincase oil along with the chain. To adjust the tension of the chain without full dissassembly, take out the pin in the bolt on the front side of the case, then turn the bolt to tighten or loosen the chain. Get it as close as you can to tight with a little slack, then back the bolt off until you can replace the pin (only goes in one hole in the bolt). Hope that helps.

Thanks modman, I plan on doing it this weekend. It's suppose to be a high of -35 to a low of 55 below this weekend here in fairbanks, so I figure some inside work is in order!!!!

Verdict... Got the chain case off and changed out the lube (it actually looked pretty good) I did have to drill a hole in the bottom of the sled to drain the lube. Checked the jackshaft nut and drive axle nut and they were good and tight.. Thanks for all the help everyone.

While you are in there. Check the tightness of the allen bolt that keeps the tensioner pulley together. They tend to get loose over time.
Spray the inside out with brake cleaner, wipe dry and close it up. Fill with oil.
I use a walmart synthetic gear oil. It costs 1/10 per litre of the BRP oil. The function of the oil in the chain case is not critical enough to spend $28 for 1/3 litres. I bet cheap 10W30 would do the job and cause less oil viscosity resistance in the chain case for power transfer.

IMHO
