872 Etec Clutching

Looking for some help clutching a 872 etec 154! I'm looking to see what other people have done to clutch a bb for 7-10 k . I live 8 hrs away from the mountains so it's tough for me to trial clutching for that elevation!! I would like to try to stay with stock primary and secondary but changing the weights ,springs,helix to maximize the hp. Team secondary has been recommended but I would like to try stock stuff before changing out to team.
I've talked to a couple places about clutching bb but it seams to be a big secret. They all seem to want to sell you a kit for. 500$ and won't give you any other info.

Your right, it does seem like it's a big secret! I had trouble figuring it out too, but I think I have mine close. Mine is 2010 872r, 174x3 so different clutching than yours would be, but from what I read, a few guys use 441 ramps and just load up the pin weight. I don't know what your gearing is either, but if it's 19/49 I'd gear up to 20/49 or 21/49, or maybe a little higher. I don't know what kind primary spring you have, but on dynamo joe's website, he goes with the 160/380 spring. Also do a search on clutching 872's on Snowest, lots of ideas on what guys are running on there. My set up is 20/49 gearing with 7 tooth drivers, 130/290 primary spring with 19.5 grams pinweight, and I'm on clicker one at 8300 rpm's in Saskatchewan doing test runs. I can't remember what my secondary spring is. It's a stock one, but I think it's from a 2012, and have a shockwave helix. I know of a guy on snowest that has the DJ QR 11 helix in his and it works good for him. I do have a QR 11 helix that I'm not using, maybe you can. It sucks being this far from the mountains, hard to test stuff to see how it works. Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Stay with the 441 ramps, try 18 grams with a 130 260 spring, and you should be real close... At that elevation

secondary would be a shockwave helix, with a stock spring or yellow yellow

Thanks for the info! I have a setup for Sask. Elevation that works great. I have 413 ramps stock 40 helix and spring in secondary, 200/350 primary spring also put thunder shift rollers in. 2 mm oversized. Running around 21-22 grams with the rollers. Pulls hard.

What you have is a good set up. I would change your primary spring to 160/ 350 and if you have, run the 441 ramps at low elevation. If you don't the 413 are ok. I high 6000 and above 415 are my first choice, but 413 work well too. Prob drop to around 18 gram weight. Compound helix work great at low elevation/ trail riding also. 44/40 would be good if you're running 40 now. Keep the straight helix for the mountains.
