Never had one shutdown on overheat but have had it as warm as 80C on low snow and stopped. While you sit there for a while and then start up again latent heat sets the overheat beep beep on start up and goes out right away. That would be weak if a claim was denied because of that. 80 C doesn't seem to hot to me? I could hold my hand on the engine
There reasoning is if you wouldn't run your diesel truck or car in the red why would you run their product in the red so to speak. Some people seem to think abuse is warrantable? I personally keep my eye on my gauge off and on all the time going up the trail when I am concerned about cooling. If other guys in my group don't then they can wait on me.

I agree. Just sayin the overheat alarm seems to go off kinda early. I got to 80 and stopped before it went off On restart it beeped but was at 60. What is an extreme overheat the OP mentioned.

It is virtually impossible to hurt one of these motors by operator error, the overheat alarms/shut downs activate below any damaging temps. Warm up watching injection oil temp, engine coolant, knock sensors that are pissed off if there isn't any noise....like you removing it.

The BUD's report will give some useful information if someone can understand it & knows how to dissect the limited information given. Compared to the automotive world it is extremely it's sad.

More damaged to these engines by terrible clutch calibrations causing overheated crankshaft conditions......your BUDS does not monitor that........

What is the difference between engine overheat alarm and shutdown in terms of temperature readout? What temperature huts an engine?

I don't have a lot of confidence in the glitchy BRP electronics. My 800 etec often beeps and displays over rev limit when going downhill, braking into a corner and at 1200 rpm

There is idle over heat shut down, off idle @ 100C it will go into 5500 rev limit. I don't believe it will shut down, just go until it die's if it is in the 5500 rpm rev limit mode. The first warning is 80C which far from ever hurting anything.

100C is 212F, not going to hurt anything @ that point.

In BUDS there is also min max tab that will tell the max engine coolant temp, the OP could ask to see that.

Was where it limited it to the 5500 rev limit and i did it a couple times in a row not thinking trying to get caught up with riding group. At this point i have got the good will money from dealer and paying rest of bill as BRP won't do anything further.

I have a question. What about the people who fire up their sleds to warm them up and leave them idle until they shut down. Is that counted as excessive over heat and voids warranty?

No, it shuts off long before it overheats. It’s a timer not a temperature shutdown. Never usually goes above half after that time period

nothing wrong with cv - tech short block motors... being running mine for over 5 years... not 1 problem..other buddies same thing no problems.. plus cv - tech backs it up with a reasonable warranty... cv - tech been around for 50 plus years... cv - tech nothing but good value... brp uses the same rebuilt crank as cv - tech... so that being said bobsledders bob - bin for apples and Trevor from macs i think is hanging around the 7/11 in sicamous looking for pigeons ... lmao

CVTech is very good quality, has there been problems.....absolutely. Just like there have been problems BRP rebuilds & their brand new out of the box products. I would suggest CVTech is the industry standard in the non OE supplier world, including after sale.

CVTech does not use the same crankshafts as BRP, unless BRP is suppling them. That I don't know, however I doubt it.

I don't know if BRP offers tours of their rebuild facility, if you ever have the opportunity to visit it is impressive.

Two shops suggested OEM over aftermarket as there has been quality issues with the aftermarket. BRP reman exact same price and one year warranty as CV Tech so I will take my chances with that. BRP engine available now and CV tech end of March.
