Well it seem my engine is pooched, Bent connecting rod and cracked cylinder , has a whooping 230000 k on it,friggin junk. The truck itself is in very good shape as I've taken the time to keep it up and maintained it since I've had it, I was quoted a very high price by the shop for a new engine, 28000 plus install, seem very high to me, 24 for a short block, at those prices I think it's not really worth it. I thought about just selling the truck as is for parts but then I still have to buy another truck. I have done some research and found rebuilt engines for around 10000 but hard to tell if they are in us dollars plus shipping. So I'm lookin for any advice from my S&M brothers, anyone know of any engine places to try or recommend. I'm on Vancouver Island so shipping is expected and not much for reputable engine shops, or should I cut my losses take the big monetary hit and move on.
Thank in advance

6.4 litre ford is not a great place to invest your money . Ours completely ch!t the bed at about 95000 km . It was still under warranty at the time and we traded it in on a new model . Not fords best effort that’s for sure

Great truck but honestly but the engine sucks. The only realistic long term option is a cummins swap. I am a ford guy and it pains me to say it. I am so glad that ford went to the 6.7 scorpion. It had some pains at first but it is a really great engine. For reference I have owned them all from a 95 7.3 to a 22 6.7. Most builders have looked away from the 6.4 because of the limited production from 2008 to 2010. It just had to many problems. Not sure if thats in your comfort zone its a tough spot to be in.

Honestly you did really well if you made it to 230k.

2 calls to make for pricing on a rebuild.
NADP in Edmonton.
Supreme Diesel in Sexsmith.

If you plan on keeping it another 5+ years maybes it's worth it, a new Diesel is minimum $80k to replace that one. But you'll never get you money back if you put in an engine and turn around and sell the truck.

Thats a tough call . I would think getting a used 6.7 ford truck would be a better choice ? Im kinda in a similar situation should i put 15 to 20 k in my truck with 300km on the clock or buy a newer truck for say 60k . Its sucks . Tits and tires cost u money.

And here I am on an acreage with a 2017 platinum f350 and I'm on the hunt for a 7.3 6 speed. If anyone has a good 7.3 standard, hit me up haha

Ya a Cummins in there would be nice but I'm no diesel mechanic and it would probably cost a bit to get that done. If I did put a new motor in it I would probably keep driving it, it's a nice truck to drive and still looks great, I've drove it 12 years already so why not. I have to pay for the work done to find the problem too so I'm lookin at probably a 20000 dollar loss plus have to still buy another truck. Hard to swallow that, friggin sucks .

They make wicked power with a delete and tune but yes, some of them were bad for sure. I think DFC sells warrantied remans out of edmonton.

Delete, tune AND nitrous lol. Made over 800rwhp with mine and trapped 122mph in the 1/4. Sorry forgot to mention that was a fully built trans too. Other then that it was completely stock. But yeah, longevity was not a 6.4 strong suit.

Another good resource

I’ve been dealing with DDC since ‘09. By far my favourite diesel shop to work with.

I bought DDC's rcsb years ago. That thing was fun. It was not stock haha. Unless I have my names mixed up, didn't you have one of the 3 or 4 they built?

I had 2 2010s. That "race" truck and my ccsb that just was deleted, tuned and had a built trans

I remember when you bought that shorty. Such a fun little truck.

Yeah it was my truck that inspired Rob to build the one you bought. To this day he’s still in love with mine. Currently it’s occupying space at DDC’s shop in West Kelowna lol. Had a Carrillo rod rip in half.

Jordan still has that silver one which is now red.

Mine went at 175,000... back in 2016. For someone to put a new motor here in BC for me was 17g to 25g depending on motor I got. Ended up selling the truck for 6500. Bought a gas truck and never looking back.

This is the right choice.

Step 1) Spend an evening on kijiji looking at used trucks. See what’s out there for options that you could buy for $28k.
Step 2) Part out your truck for $6-7k?

Putting $28k into a truck worth $15k just doesn’t make sense other than emotional attachment. Just a thought good luck.

Exactly. Even if you end up spending 40-50 replacing it, it's a much better investment in the long run. I wouldn't put a penny into a 6.4 personally

Ya I'm leaning that way, this is the truck, it's in awesome shape ,what do you guys think it's worth without a motor? I found a long block rebuild with arp studs ,billit stage 2 cam , high rev springs and push rods for $8550. American plus shipping.
