50 th BD present

i just picked this up a few week ago ...... wanted a Harley , but the old lady said that i would get hurt on it and that it was selfish.... so i said to hell with it and bought a boat .... so now if the boat gos down .... we all go down .......... but i need some help , the engine is an I L 6 ( tower of power ) 115 merc 2 stroke .... on GPS last week at the brazeau i had it trimmed out at 48 miles mph.. my problem is the hole shot ... hell ... there is no hole shot and the ilde is low . so what are everyones thought on a fix ...the prop is a 17 pitch ss

change your prop. with that kind of top speed on a fixed blade prop you will have no bottom end.

absolutely. it's like gearing a dirt bike, you sacrifice in one area to gain in another. there are 2 speed props out there, pretty spendy but they will keep your top speed and give you the holeshot you desire. I've only heard of them so i cannot offer any suggestions on where or what to buy, but there are plenty of boat peeps here that may know more about them.

High Five SS will give you better bottom end if ya get your pitch right. Some have good luck with those whale tails " it helps keep the front end down" But IMO if ya need a whale tail you shound have bought a better boat ! I loved my High Five I pitched my for bottom end grunt not top end. Really Y do you need to go 60mph? Most wake / ski/ tubing etc is all 0 - 40 mph. But if you pull a tube at 50
+mph sounds like you dont care for the people your with anyways! LOL

................ nobody in my family is going to be pulled anything past thiry , but if you can get a desent hole shot and still get a good top end why not have the best of both worlds ?? i know what a throttle is , and when to use it

JK...
U need a High Five, you are not going to get 60 mph and pop 3 people who cant ski out of the water without changing one of three things..prop, boat or expectaions! like said above prop is ether more towards the lo end or more towards top end......but that said if you can dial in a High Five "pitch wise" you can spread out your range. ...if you have the power. High Five with more blades is like more traction in the water so you can pitch it to get good low end with a little more top end but you need the power to pull it off. But if you dont have the HP you will be one or the other. High Five VS. a 3 blade you will never go back to a 3. Usally a outbourd pops way better than a inboard anyway so Im supprized alittle you are having trouble.

all that said I can only comment on inboard and what we did. My 20 foot searay with 350 350HP I tried 4 props before I was happy. we swithched from a 300HP to 350HP and we had to change props again due to it cavitating baddly.Changed up two pitch sizes been awsome ever since. But i had a great Prop source that let me try different sizes, and really at $900 beans they should aslong as ya dont pit it or damage it.

After re reading your OP, is it maybe a idel / fuel mix thing? Do you have a bog off out of the hole? if buddy got a higher speed last year? is it stale gas? I think those out bourds hate bad/weak fuel more than inboards.

Also what diameter are you running? May want to look and going up pitch but drop to a smaller diameter prop. This may work or you may rev out. .

Maybe stale.... My outboard always ran great with the gas from the year before but some of them are finicky, is it a self injected set up or do you have to pre mix? May need to adjust the mix, also check if he ran premium fuel in it. Maybe a gummed up carb as well

Well here's my story.... Bought an 18' invader from him. Was told this boat had new impeller,pump,gimble bearing, bellows.
First trip out boat over heats, call him, take it in, he fixes, foots the bill. I sing his praise for fixing the issue. This year I take it in because I was getting water in my oil (taken to a different shop) where I find out not only is the riser gasket toast and been toast, also my "new" gimble bearing and bellows are not do new and both are shot...... He showed me the bearing it was nothing but a pile of rust and corrosion. The guy I took it to sad he would guess it was 5 years old or better.....

OK .... my bad .... the prop is a quicksilver 48 19p SS ..had a third of a tank in it when i got it , and i have run 4 tanks of premium through it since and it is oil injected. once it lays down flat and trimmed out it is alot of fun....... never thought i would buy another ( hands always dirty 2 stroke ).... looks like i have some work to do .,

I'm surprised it won't pull a 19. I'd make sure the engine is pulling properly before you dump $$ on a prop. Does it start good?

if you do look for a prop there is a guy in airdrie Prop master is the name his company awesome guy to deal with he has rebuilt our props a few times never had left us out to dry either always seems to get it done when you need it!!
