Hey I have 26x12 kenda bearclaws that are pushing 4 years old and are pretty beat. I just moved to grande prairie and the mud here is on another level. I want a pretty aggressive tire, but one that won't steal too much power because I don't have a lot to spare and don't want axle problems

What tire would you recommend for mud/trail riding in my situation? I have a kingquad 450.

You could look at the Zillas, I just put 27" on my mom's Kodiak 450 and have no power loss issues. Anothe good tire to look for would be mud bugs, they are a bit heavier but an excellent tire as well, the 26 mud bug would probably measure up close to the 27" Zilla.

We put 26" mudbug radials on the wifes new kodiak. Great traction and a really smooth ride for a mud tire...you won't like the price though.

how much are mudbugs generally? are they way more than zillas or interco swamplites? what about the ITP mudlites...is it true they wear out pretty quick?

thanks for the info everyone, I got some thinking to do:confused::p

They are all very close in price. The Zillas and mudbugs will last a long time, I hear swamplites wear quickly but have never had them so can't say for sure. Most guys I ride with hate the mudlights due to puncturing sidewalls and such but if you like them the Supergrip Superlights are the same tread with alot stronger rubber.

You need to take into consideration how much the tires weigh, that will rob you of power and gas mileage for sure. you can't just take off your stock 25" tires, throw on some 27" tires and continue to have the same power especially with a 450 ( i know, I have one). I ride muskeg and tundra all the time and my 6 year old Mudlites do quite well in that terrain. Compare the weights of the different tires and try and stick with a 6 ply tire, they will last longer.

27" zillas are lighter than 26" mudlights

I don't think so. 27x12x12 Mudzillas weigh 39.6 lbs and the Mudlite 27x12x12 weigh 27.80 lbs, not even close bro. Read it for yourself.

I like my 'Zillas, they work great, and little signs of wear even after a few powerslides on gravel. One complaint I have with them, they like to ball up into donuts in the thick stuff and even muskeg. They do have a smoother ride than the Mudlite too.

I've also owned Mudlites, they worked great when you don't go too deep. I'll second that they like to wear quick. They are kinda like the 'Zilla too, they will ball up.

Ya gotta make sure your paying attention to the posts. There is a big difference between the mudzillas and Zillas The maxxis Zillas 27x12x14 are 27lbs which is much different from the mudlights also you can get the 27x11x12 which are 23lbs.
If you want a good performing trail tire with some mud and such the Zilla(NOT THE MUDZILLA) is by far the best. If you like playing in the sand and mud as well then the mudbug would be a better choice.

Your right, my bad, I thought Zillas was short for Mudzilla. Something I did notice between the 2 is that the tread pattern is very similar except the Zillas has more spacing between the tread and it is offset a tad.:dunno:

I don't know what you guys are doing to those Mudlites but i've had mine for 6 years and have had zero flats or punctures and I don't baby them at all. I've got enough tread to get at least another 1 or 2 years out of them. :headscratch3:

i think the problem is they are letting em go flat, and still running em. not sure, i have a set on a king quad although they are xtrs. never missed a beat and work very well. have a set of reg mudlights on a explorer 400 will see, one tire was left flat over the winter.
will see.
