A shop in Wetaskiwen is saying that they are re-flashing the ECU to 270 horse and running it on pump fuel. is this even possible? They said they’ve done it to a bunch of machines already and have had no problems I’m just curious what everybody thinks.

Seems high without some extra work done to it. 215 is typically a ballpark number for a simple reflash, but I can’t say that there isn’t some5hing new and wizzy out there now.

My son has run both a Nytro and a Viper at 270hp on 91 pump with no problems. Neither of those were a reflash though. MCX kits.

I wouldn't get to worked up on the HP claims that the various companies are putting out. Find one of the companies that does testing at altitude and buy the best suited tuned, whether thats MCX, Precision EFI or Hurricane. Claims on the dyno for a short pull are great for internet arguments but getting them setup and with a nice torque curve and clutching to match will be better every time.

I have the Hurricane 270 refresh and yes you can run it on just premium but be aware that it feels more like a 30 hp bump not 70, still worth the money but definitely not a 70 hp gain.

Hello Catman10. Do you mind if I ask what all you have done with your sled? I know you have a 174. How do you like that?

Also Catman10 what kind of riding do you generally do? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

If you want REAL 270 HP the only one to do this is MCX or Maptunes NEW kit with machined IHI Turbo & new wheel coupled with injectors, header etc.... The Hurricane Tune is not even close to a 270 MCX kit this is FACT and this goes for any other ECU Flash on market.... as I've said over and over it's maybe 225hp. Yes Hurricane did HE testing in Norcal but I can tell you from REAL WORLD it is no 270 HP.... The turbo is to small and produces a ridiculous amount of heat & the IC is too small & doesn't have the flow. You can put up all the graphs you want but you put a Sidewinder with 270 reflash beside a Sidewinder with MCX 270 kit & there is no comparison in a climb.

From what I seen my opinion was you were lucky to see 240 at elevation no matter how good the tune on a stock sidewinder I did have a really solid evo tune and messed with clutching lots. If you were 16psi up top with stock Turbo I think 225-240 would be close but compared to the old nytros and vipers with a 270+ at elevation and mcxpress turbo kit there not even close. MCX has always been way ahead with turbos but you have to pay for there quality.

So for $650.00 I can get the hurricane flash done or should I just leave it stock? I don't want to pay $2500.00 to get to 270+. I do most of my riding down here and in the trees in the mountains. I might also do some smaller chutes.

FWIW, I don’t have the hurricane tune. But I do have an EVO stage 4 flash. It is a significant improvement over stock. (I think they claim +58hp, but that places it around 238hp on the dyno). Not bad for a flash, muffler & intake. Does it need more. Not in my opinion, the sled is more capable then I am, and I’ve had higher horsepower turbos in the past.
Realistically even if you just do a flash, you’ll need exhaust and clutching at a minimum, so your bill is going to be significantly more then $650...likely more like $1500 if you do all the work yourself. It’s been proven that these sleds work great stock, and you get to keep your warranty... food for thought

Kibbles , the data log posted was in reply to fueling question , AFR is well within safe range , as to IHI turbo , yes it is beyond it effective range to maintain boost much beyond 17# but will briefly then fall off and IC temps rise quickly .
but bang for your bucks it’s hard to beat . And yes that is clutched and also with a Hurricane muffler .

A 240 MCX on a old Nytro has more power than a 270 tune.... The evo does not make any more power than a hurricane or whomever.... Vipers or nytro 270 destroys a reflashed SW. I can't tell you if I saw 240 hp at elevation as I didn't dyno up there haha... just busting your nuts!!
