My dealer is telling me if i want to get a 3/4 ton, i mines well go to a 1 ton as the price difference is small (fleet) and the ride and fuel is pretty much the same. He says he barely sells the 2500 because of this.

Does this sound right?

Also i dont pull alot, should i steer clear of the diesel?... from what ive heard i think a gasser is the way to go.

Thanks

Not sure if it's provincial or federal tax but in BC the 3500 usually costs less because you don'y pay luxury tax on it. If you don't pull much why don't you look at a 1500?

Ok, the 3500 will have higher GMP, the 2500 will use less fuel, the 3500 has stiffer suspension meaning rougher ride, the 2500 rides smoother, I have a 1ton and I don't pull alot but when I do pull it's a really good load. The problem with diesel is they need to warm up. And sometimes it's not even worth the wait but what ya gonna do? If your not pulling much go with a gas 2500 or 1500, the 1500 will have even a better ride

A point to consider is that the 2500 4x4 extended cab, long box has a GVW of 9200 and the others are only 8800. That is marginal for hauling with a deck and 2 163" Summits, full fuel, gear and 2 people. If you want to haul 2 quads go the 1 ton.

I have a 6l 2008 2500 4x4 extended cab long box with the 6 speed trannny and love it. Mileage isn't real bad but it does have lots of power for Roger's Pass, etc.

The only diff form the 2500 to 3500 is a set of overload springs on the 3500 and no TPS monitors at the wheels.I went with the 2500 and can always add air bags if needed and don't compromise ride.Diesel or gas is up to you.Trade in on a gasser 2500-3500 down the road is next to nothing.Same year and mileage diesel usually gets 15k more on resale

If your younger insurance will vary huge if you have full coverage, a 2500 is insane compared to the same truck in a 3500 srw, like $1000. I dont know Chevy but with dodge its the same truck only difference is overloads. I would never buy a 2500 it makes no sense.

If your are looking for a short box, I don't think gmc makes a short box 1 ton. But I could be wrong. Registration is more for a 1 ton.

What do ya mean. Air bags keep the tires and the leafs atached to the truck right.

first of all what year are you looking for???

if its 2012 i just test drove a new 2012 3500HD crew cab short box and it drives like a car, very, very nice. i still dont think i will go for it, $65 000 is a little much for right now and yes i was going for top trim level. you will have to live with a ch!t ton of emissions on the new duramax but i think i can live with that

the empty curb weights are very close around 7300 lbs

the new one tons have huge payload capacities, 4300 lbs and can pull a max 17 000 lbs trailer (GVWR 11 500 lbs)

the 3/4 tons have a payload of 2700 lbs and a max trailer of 15 800 lbs trailer (GVWR 10 000 lbs)

and as said before air bags do not increase payload capacities... its a whole combo of frame strength, brakes, tires, suspension

O really registration is more? Since when? Last time I checked person vehicle registration in alberta was the same across the board for all vehicles. Commercial is based on weight registered (so again doesn't mean a 3500 is more then a 2500).

Air bags are to help level your truck when hauling heavy loads and they help keep your truck stable

In 2011 GM started making a crew cab with a short box (6.5). If you are looking for max GVW go with a 1 ton.

The only thing different in a GM 2500hd and a 3500.....................the gvw. They share the same frame, suspension, brakes, tires, everything.

Like I said before the only differance between the GM 2500-3500 is overloads on the springs and TPS monitors .Everything else is the same .
