i know i've seen lots of threads on here regarding chains and gearing, but i was going to bring it up again and get some thoughts....

on my '07 600ho sdi i had stock gearing of 19/45. least year while i was away i had some chaincase problems (the enitre thing blew apart), and when i got it put back together the guy put in 21/45. i only had about a dozen rides on it after that, but i burnt 2 belts. i'm thinking that i should switch back to the 19/45 because of this. was this the cause? geared to high, good track speed but a little much for the little sled??

no other work has been done to the sled and it has a 74 link chain (as I confirmed was correct from one of maxwells posts).

On my '08, Mr.R's changed the gearing (BRP warranty) to prolong the belt life. I can't find the paper work so I don't know what gear they put in. I am thinking that maybe they put in a 19 to reduce the heat. There were quite a few threads about back in 08....good luck

PS snow on the eastern side of the valley this morning

Not only would I go back to the 19 I would throw a 46 bottom in it as well. I did that to my dad's and also put a hpv roller on it and that thing rips pretty hard. That little 6 always impresses me.

Ya, I think you are too tall with 21/45. I would be at 19 for sure, you're probably slipping the belt more with the taller gears = more heat to the belts which kills them.

i have the 47 in my doo still and was going to put the 45 back in if i still have it.... i might trade it tho.... the ratio is way too low for the 800 cause it just trenches..... but with the 600 it poped up out of the snow and climbed real good

144" with 2.25 lugs

sled is stock with the exception of a mbrp can

was hoping for a new sled but i spent my money on an engagement ring, and with a wedding looming in may i think i better keep saving... but if there is anything else relatively cheap i can do to get a bit more out of it, i'm welcome to suggestions...

ok so 19-47 = 2.47 ratio, 19-46 = 2.42 and 19-45= 2.37 going with the 46 is like a 1/2 a gear change.... u realy won't notice it...... my sled was a 04 600ho with a 144 x2 track..... yours is a 2.25 track and u need all the advatage u can get....then i put the 151 x 2.25 track still with the 600ho ... it worked awsome like i said with the 47 gear.... but with the 800r in it now its too low and i feel it trenches more now cause of the 800 's trq...

looking to put the machine back together this weekend... any more thoughts if it is worth it to go switch the bottom gear from a 45 to a 46 or 47?
