If anyone is thinking of going the Side Winder rout, this is the time to do it on a 17 or 18 model year. Other then putting in your snow check, good luck finding one for next season, maybe used but i think they won't be as cheap as some might think.

As for your second part of your thought's with new up coming models like maybe 2020 that will date your SW like what happened to the Viper. The SW killed the Viper sell's.
I don't think its going to happen this time around. Why, well i doubt Yamaha will be introducing a new motor any time soon, expect this motor to be around for the next 6-8yrs like the 1049.
But i would expect a chassis will be coming down the pipe.
But i believe Yamaha is actually setting them selves up for it now, the new up coming model. This snow check only program for new units i believe is a permanent move for Yamaha. Why, already these units are over $20,000 new, i would expect anything coming down the pipe will be pushing the $25,000, making Yamaha the most expensive sled on the market. So it is in my opinion Yamaha will no longer mass produce sled's like it did in previous years and like the other's are.
I believe Yamaha is moving towards the demand market only and in turn their customer's retain value in their current unit's and will return because of that.

Up coming, rumor's has it.....the Cat chassis was just the test chassis stepping stone for the 998 turbo, rumor is that it will be in a Yamaha exclusive TUBE chassis.
Yamaha is very secretive but that was the rumor, heard about it several times, and at a cost, like i said above and snow check only.........or maybe i full of BS LOL.

Tube chassis. Interesting. I wonder what the weight difference would be between a tube and the current design. I see it being heavy, unless there is a lot of carbon fibre used, which will make it expensive. Time will tell I guess.

But would that throw a curve ball to the sled market. They have the the best sled engine, now the chassis is needed for the package. Lots of guy's jaw would drop if that actually happened. IMO would put them on the PODIUM for a few years to come.

Don't you ever feel when your out riding and i'm sure your the lonely 4stroke in your group like me that your the guy setting the bar for the day, especially when your the new guy along?
For some reason when i go riding i end up having dudes either following me or marking me, i can't even do a simple line on a hill with out someone pulling it over LOL. In other words trying to imply i can go where your turbo can LOL. TOO FUNNY

I have had so much fun with that, cause i'll put a mark high enough for them to push their limit. You know the teaser mark, eventually someone will crest and brag about it because i will do it twice and not pass my original mark too much. LOL So they feel good on their new Ascender or G4 175 when they mark it or pass it.
The beauty of this is just before they had enough of that hill and the feel good feeling on beating on the Side Winder and me for riding such an animal and not a 2 stroke like every body else has reached it's climax level, i go hit the hill one more time and put the new bar up there, usually so far they just look and leave...hahaha.

Definitely I like to keep the group around 3-4 people. I’m the only Sidewinder in our group and really have to watch where I go because I may be on my own. Lol. I haven’t seen another sidewinder in the parking lot all winter besides this last weekend which is unfortunate I think. Guys are missing out....

I have a powerhouse tube chassis with a w/a apex turbo and a baker 174, I went to the dump one day (not to toss in the garbage) but to weight it and with a full tank of fuel it was 640lbs. I could shave some weight with out the w/a kit and a few other things but it hauls ass the way it is and is tons of fun . Not bad for a full 4 stoke motor on a 174 as well, and it so easy to ride as I have a b motion in it as well which help to throw this thing around like a 2 stoke(yes I have one two, meow) so a 998 in a tube chassis would be sick, I bet you could get in well under 600. Powerhouse does make a chassis around the 1049 engine as well just need to run a apex chain case and some other stuff.

I agree, i've seen one of Powerhouse tube chassis sled with a Nytro 1049 in it a couple year back in Pemberton and it was absolutely radical. Tough tough, could easily pound through mogul trails and curve up the mountain side including doing huge drops. They respond much better then the typical standard design to rider input.
The sled was all tube with carbon fiber tunneling and paneling, pretty much no snow stuck to it. At the end of the day it probably weighed within 40-50lbs of a 2stroke that ran with it but well over 100 more HP.
The guy on the tube sled was having way more fun whipping that around then his buddies were, made me envious.
