Yup, they are completely capable of making big power. That has never been an issue, but at a high cost. One of their weaknesses is the primary clutch. Not too bad up to about 200hp but after that thing's can go sideways very quick, on top of being a tuning nightmare and typical BRP patented heating system. It was never design for those loads and BRP never intended it to be.
So for a reliable strong performance a clutch replacement is recommended. I don't remember what was used on Banners but it was around a $1500 touch i was told.
After you spend some time sledding in the east Ill agree with Lund. Four strokes are growing and growing on that side of the country. Who wants to be rebuilding 2 smokes every year anyway.
I can vouch for the 1200 doo as I’ve had one since 2011. The best way to make these 1200’s run is hands down a motec system and get rid of the brp ecm completely. I will probly keep it forever as the only other power that is the same boost psi to psi is the apex, but a lot less weight. The primary clutch does need upgraded after the 200 hp Mark. I built a 1200 my buddy built a nytro and the cost was not far off in the end to build. But it all depends on how you want it finished. I built my own tunnel extension he put a cr racing tunnel on. I really thought I wanted a sw until I tried one, unfortunately I personally was disappointed with it. I would go back to a 2 stoke if I ever bought new as much as Yamaha has improved the 4 strokes they will always have the extra weight of the motor. JMO not bashing any brands just my thoughts.
you don't know what your talking about, say rebuilding every yr, not even every 3 yrs....actually never needed to rebuild any doo. I'm sure there have been a few but not like you talk...
And that’s easily doable. I was in Quebec and put on 3200km in 6 days. Mach1 time to put down the tide pods.Put on 5000 to 10000km a year out east and you will be rebuilding every year
Every. Year. Since 2003.
Two strokes don't last as long and four strokes are heavier and more expensive.
Four strokes don't feel as heavy blah blah blah.
Two strokes aren't as unreliable as they used to be blah blah blah.
F**k all y'all I'm buying an electric sled!
Who the hell started this thread
Oh God no ! I spent a lot of dough 20 yrs ago on a SRX to make it work in the Mountains LOL
maybe the 1980 440 is returning!
So Yamaha took the name sidewinder off of the sled and put on SRX?
nice retro look too
