Really wondering if the new magnet tether will work on my 2016. I hate the rubber plug thing, the magnet is pretty slick.

It will work on any sled ...the unfortunate thing is the tether doesn’t come with the plug and wires on the tether. The newer sleds have the prewired plug that plugs into it. Now that being said there is a fella on snowest that has sourced out the plug and has been selling various harness’s for different sleds.

I just got my 4 stroke magnetic tether last week.

this is all you get.

What year is your sled? that tether is for the 19.The right part number for the 17 and older is 5639-859 for the 800 and 5639-860 for the 4 stroke. The older ones should come complete with a harness.

Yeah forsure, but he was asking about the new magnetic tether and not the old rubber capped one, which your part numbers are the rubber capped style.

Bumping an old thread, just bought a '16 and want the magnetic one from AC, anyone know where one can get the 2 wire female plug for back of tether? I know about OFT and the guy on Snowest, just thinking someone might have a lead on these plugs by now.

Newark is where i ordered all 5 of my plugs and connectors, i did my 17 mountain cat, my boys 15 m6000 153, 16 m6000 141 and my buddies 15 m8000 153.
Another buddy of mine did his 2013 pro rmk as well.
The parts are cheap, you'll pay more in shipping, about 12.00 which still isn't bad overall i guess.

Great, was there a part number or how did you/they know which was the fit?

Quick question on tethers for you guys.
I have a 2018 Mountain Cat. When I bought the sled the dealer did not have the new style tether however I wanted one installed so I went with the old style. My sled does have the wire for the new style (plug and play)and I would now like to have the magnetic version as the old style one freezes up sometimes.
Just wondering if I need to switch the old wires back for the new style to work ? Or can I simply un-plug the old one- plug in the new one and be good to go?

AC runs a normally open ignition on the 2 strokes, so if you are talking 2 stroke yes you can unplug the old one and plug in the new one GTG

I just installed a new one (old style tether) last night. I would like to know whoever thought putting a screw in the end of the tether was a good idea?? Tears the cr@p out of the rubber protecting the plunger. Original tether only lasted 2 years.

So, if there is an existing tether it would just connect in? Anyone have a picture of the connector on the magnetic tether? 2 way flat?

It's a 2 pin plug, my sled is the 2018 so it already had the plug all ready to go. I had the same issue as you with the old style. As soon as the rubber gets damaged water gets in and the tether freezes down making it useless! Terrible design in my opinion.

Anyone know the parts required to do the magnetic teather on a 4 stroke (sidewinder) ? The crappy rubber one worries me.

I recently installed one on a viper which would be the same for the sidewinder. Bought the 4 stroke tether and the plug with wires attached. There’s various places that sell the plug and wires or you can source the plug parts yourself. I ordered the plug and wires from https://www.catzass.net/product-page/arctic-cat-tether-harness-universal
Then just use the part that hooks to your sled from your existing rubber plug harness and solder the wires to it.

I mounted mine with https://www.canadasledparts.com/product-category/arctic-cat-tether-relocation-bracket/
But with the lay down steering Kurt @ Canada sled parts is making me a prototype bracket to fit the lay down steering. I had to modify the one he sells for the vertical post to make work. I will post pictures when I get it installed.

Here’s the one I modified
