2018 Ascender platform vs the Skidoo 850.

I had the dealer do the new one, on the 2014 it was time consuming. I looked at how the 2018 are installed and rather than put rivets from inside the tunnel, they go in from under the lip left after you cut the original boards off. That should make it easier as I had to remove the skid on the 2014. On the 2014 it was tricky because the tunnel is a double layer so you need to drill two different sized holes and put in spacers.

just about anywhere but there, there is a ton of heat from your pipe there. i would buy a belt holder from the older style sleds and install it on the can side, you will have lots of room if you got an aftermarket can and will have way less heat.

Ya unless you wanna screw that belt up I wouldnt put it there, I would zip tie it on the can side if you have an after market can you will have space, I put mine in the bag on the tunnel but I also have Mtn addiction bags for all my other $hit

Don't know if this will work or not but on my 13 I cut out an area of foam on the underside of my seat and put the belt in there. I don't notice any difference in comfort with the belt in there.

That only works on the old style couch seats

I have die hard cat riding buddy that bought a new mountain cat. Over the last 15 years he always had cats and I always had Doos. I didn't like the original m series and i didn't like the early proclimbs either. I have spent some seat time on the new mountain cat and I have to say it works well. As I haven't rode an 850 yet I can only really compare to my 16 163 T3. Our first ride out it was headlight deep without much base in meadow and tree riding. I felt in that type of snow the cat seemed to get around easier than my xm. My xm seemed to trench more. In the baseless snow the cat seemed to be a bit dippy and divey, seemed like it was tough to ride at slow speeds. The power on the cat was good. I didn't feel it was any better on top than my xm but was more responsive down low. The second ride out we had good fresh but the snow had better base. We had good weather so we got to ride some treed up gullies and also do some hillclimbing. The cat also worked great in those conditions, however it seemed my xm had better traction in those conditions. When crossing creeks it seemed the xm would pick up the front end a little easier. When sidehilling or carving the cat required very little countersteer and the cat seemed to hold a line well. Hillclimbing was where I was a little surprised. My xm has some clutching and it works well but I was expecting to get cleaned but it was pretty much neck and neck with the new cat and I am about 20-30 pounds heavier than the cat rider. Cat has a great sled here and I think when making a purchasing decision, dealer should be the deciding factor.

Ran this for a while now, no issues yet.

I tried the 850 a few times last year and loved the engines power but didn't like the 16 wide tunnel or the suspension that moves around , it is terrible sidehilling I feel personally moving all around all willy nily.
Don't like the old school steering setup. Ended up with a 2018 800MC and not looking back

How is mounting next to the insulated pipe any worse than mounting next to the non insulated exhaust can?

Half inch away from insulated pipe, 6-8” away from can, seems pretty basic to me, just from experience ive seen guys put the spare belt on the clutch guard and then use said belt only to have it grenade after a few hundred km’s and they got 1500+ km outta the one before

Ive got mine in the bag on the back that it comes with, fits my klim tool bag and a spare belt perfectly, the bag is kinda useless for anything else other than that as its bot water proof or crush proof, i have mtn addiction bags for everything else
