good point. Unfortunately that closure your speaking of starts at the cabin area and follows the ridge along the beaten path for 20+km. Far to difficult to properly sign in my opinion. There are extremely detailed KML/GPX files of the allan creek/clemina creek/chappel creek boundaries that one can load into their handheld and even google earth in their phones. I bet the Polaris with the onboard GPS could even load the file. I think thats the direction everyone needs to go as its far more effective with the way technology is progressing aswell as save a pile of money on signage.

My buddy brought the map up on his PIDD GPS and where we parked our sleds looked like it was the edge of the closure. It showed it like a “park boundary”. With the tracking of his gauge it showed we did not once travel into the shaded areas of the GPS map. Im familar with alot of the closure areas in allen and the shaded parts of the map sure did look like the closures.


Skidoo needs to step up to this century and offer a gauge like polaris.

I didnt not know there is downloadable files for the closures. Where can I find them????

very interesting! i have no idea how those boundaries would be in their as they typically arent but thats interesting. you will have to compare next time out

I realize that Sean. While we are in that conversation, how much of the old iron is up there? I can see the new sleds reaching out and placing this on the GPS units but the older sleds are SOL. It is kind of like Quartz with the Park closure and Frisby with caribou closures; place the signage when the snow is deeper and make the sticks high enough (that might be a problem some years). It has to be easy for sledders to know the boundary and regular sledders have the advantage if they care but for the visitor, it is hit and miss. We were okay as we had a clue looking at maps but are all riders that responsible?

no they certainly are not, which in the end will result in the end of mountain snowmobiling as we know it. maybe thats a little extreme

Not much right here in town, but at least 30cm reported in mountains and at riding areas around Valemount.

Lots of fresh at Allen Creek today. Was a lot warmer up top than down in the valley. Very cold ride on the way down.

Saturday we rode Clemina Creek, trail was awesome. Started in morning glory was an awesome morning with 1 1/2 to 2’ of fresh snow. Then we headed into lakeview there was 1 1/2 to 3’ of fresh, lots left to hit in this area, we headed toward the wall which was still untouched, and with the extreme cold temps I don’t think anyone would of ventured this far on Sunday. I ended up with some frostbite on my forehead and neck in a few areas and some tender fingers. When it was to be - 19 as a high we decided to call it a weekend, we had such a good day on Saturday it was not a disappointment.

Curious how many people were out Saturday/Sunday with the cold weather? Not to sure where a guy wants to ride this weekend?

Rode Saturday. Cold weather means deep blower pow!! Sunday was a hard no on riding.

Rode Blue River Saturday and was super deep at -4.
Stayed in Blue and Sunday morning was -24 at Allan parking lot so we did not even pull in.
Did -27 once, no desire to do it again.
Lots of untouched for next weekend.

The skies opened and dropped over 60cms of new snow on the surrounding high country and the riding has been all time. Temps are a bit chilly, but the skies are clear and the snow is amazing. Take advantage of the low mid-week user numbers and come enjoy this all this sun and fresh powder all to yourself. We always like stories and photos and your info helps us create these reports.
